It's an academic language. Many college/university academics are Lisp/Haskell/etc. fans.

With no C/C++, and basically all Lisp and web development stuff (again another saturating market) it's not surprising he hasn't found a job.

Definitely not something to put on your resume; it should be a statement of what you have accomplished, not what you haven't! It's true that many programmers have no degree but they also have employable skills. Saying "I didn't do X" and "I don't know Y" on your resume is going to turn many of them away.

I did donate $2 in 2003 when they were small. That's when the server crashes due to traffic and they needed it and they were not well known. Today, xahlee.org is a very rich and big org. Xah Lee is very rich. (as reported and “proved” by email, one single speaking engagement is 3 digits) By his track record, he isn't particularly a good person. He just “happened” to hit the “visualization” idea at the right time and was one of the guy who helped it. (he tried to erase the other co-founder; according to online reports and i verified it somewhat. He also ran porn site during the time (his website xahlee.org/sex/), also tried to create a commericial entity to get money out of porn reviews (hentai, among others). He also tried to distance himself from the word porn, which he's business (xahlee.org/sex/blog.html) was about.)
XL doesn't need that much money today. Not even sure the money is used properly. I've read that the donated money is not well accounted (but haven't spent days to research it)

I'd say you're quite right about that since he repeatedly confuses the Web with email. Along with that, he's not really clear about what he means by 'plain text'. If he's talking specifically about something like ASCII in comparison with UTF-8, then I'd agree that people should adopt UTF-8 in the place of ASCII since it's compatible with it. On the other hand, if he's talking about mixing Web standards like HTML with Email, then I'd strongly disagree. The Web is already a mess due to standards that people can't agree on and accept (look at discussions related to the introduction of the video tag in HTML5 for an example of this). Why push that burden onto email?
