PHP is not a shitty language for web dev stuff.  It gets the job done, and that's all you need to do when you're working on someone else's clusterfuck of a project.  Allah save you should you have to deal with anything that's suffering from PHP4 code.

Web hosts have all but dropped their support for PHP4, so you can make a chunk of change just dealing with that bullshit (fatal errors as far as the eye can see).  You can also make some money off of the idiots who thought outsourcing their ecommerce solution to Indians was a good idea.

Make money off of morons, avoid bro-startups, and always charge hourly on PHP projects.

No. Just because you can make a meal with an axe and a Bunsen burner, it doesn't mean an axe and a Bunsen burner are not shitty tools for cooking with.

HOW MANY TIMES DO WE HAVE TO GO OVER THIS OP. PHP IS CANCER, AND YOU HELP SPREAD LIKE A VIRUS. OF COURSE IT IS PROFITABLE, IT IS A PARASITIC MARKET. YOU CREATE THE  ACTUAL PROBLEM OF YOUR SOFTWARE, THAT MAKES IT THE MOST CRACKABLE PIECE OF SHIT, AND WAIT FOR PEOPLE WHO LOVE TO RAPE TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOUR CLIENTS, AND THEN YOU DEAL WITH "hURR dURR, MY SITE HAS BEEN HACKED. aNO, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT."

AND THEN YOU GET THE BENEFIT "FIXING THEIR BROKEN PIECE OF SHIT, HOPE TO GOD GOOGLE WHITELIST THE SITE.

YOU MAKE ME WANT TO KILL.

PHP money is small potatoes compared to java/c#/c++ money.  If pocket change is so much fucking money for you, then you might want to finish the high school before posting on a board for actual career programmers.

Suck a dick.

I've seen job listings for junior Ruby web dev for $10/hr and personally have seen clients use internships as opportunities to run college kids into the ground stress-wise.  One client showed me a craigslist job response where the applicant volunteered to build a complete Wordpress ecommerce site for free.  That's often what the competition looks like and that's why you take the money when it's there.

Employers are by no means innocent.  Outsourcing exists.  Salary slave jobs exist.  Most of the time, you didn't even choose the language the site runs on.  Real-world coding isn't always pretty, and often falls under the "FAST, CHEAP, & GOOD -  Pick two" rule.

PHP is either going to unfuck itself or be replaced.  Until then, who gives a shit?  I know I can eventually code well in any high-level language for a decent wage.

I have, my own. And thank you. I am a flexible programmer. I rather choose Guile than your HIV.

Oh, and to answer your questions, GOOD and FAST. I rather live on a fortress, and some sand castle.

And yes, we all give a shit, esp. you the one "responsible for my 1K worth site that has been ruined because of you".

GOOD and FAST?
Are you going to work for retail wages so your client can make money or are you going to make sure you get paid for your expertise?

You don't work in the real world at all.  $1k is chump change for a real business.  One of my clients was running a self-installed ecommerce site with code from 2003 because it was CHEAP and FAST - any time he needed work done to the site, he had oDesk Indians ready and willing, FAST and CHEAP.  His business brought in $500k last year.

I actually got bit in the ass by following your basement-dwelling logic: after recommending to update to the newest version of a client's PHP ecommerce site, I had the project nixed when it took longer than originally quoted (I was trying to make it a "fortress").  Now the site runs on Microsoft shit and costs enough to

When I need other coders, I hire people who get shit done.  Clients want their site to run, the polish can come later.  The fortress-building is a process of best practices and lessons learned.

So go suck your own dick.  PHP gets me paid & laid.

Yes, I get paid for my expertise, and consultation. And when I am called, they pay for travel and food.

But thanks for telling me that you make your clients sites ready for raping. I might just steal those 500k in a heartbeat.
But sucks for you, that you recommend yet another installment  of shit, with shards 2.0.

And we all know web-clients care shit about security. I deal with the Enterprise servers these days. All that is to care, is security.
