Contracting gigs that aren't webdev?

Name: Anonymous 2012-11-09 18:14

Tried CL but all the postings are for web stuff. I'm somewhat sick of writing markup and would love to write something else even if it's java, sepples or python.

Java = ENTERPRISE TURKEY SOLUTIONS for some middle sized company. Maybe they want to replace their accountancy system.

FIOC = web

sepples = pretty much anything, including turkey solutions, game development, web frameworks or database engines

Help build a mandatory plugin for *LISP* on all your web contract sites, an let us replace ECMAScript for good.

Who wants to download a plugin? Remember those sites who asked you for Quicktime, Real Player, Yamaha MIDI and Shockwawe plug-ins? Have you ever installed those?

I am shamefully sorry at myself. The shit existed:
http://www.gnu.org/software/guile/

Should I make a non-gnu version?

Only swf, cause near every site is riddled with it.

Doing guile although.

Why would you want to stick anything in the throat of users for your own fun as a programmer? Users will simply "ignore that shit" as a natural defense.

If you build the most amazing webapp ever and ask the visitor to downlad a non-gnu alternative to some obscure dialect of some obscure language, do you really expect anyone to think more than a second before clicking back?
Maybe two /prog/tards on the entire web would take a look, and recalling that nobody ever tried Symta, I wouldn't count on it.

I concur. Where the money is, the people go.
Which is why Bank of America, Disney, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and other sites use Shit as their code and library base that users accept, regardless of anything, because it \\free™//.

Why not implement Scheme in Javascript? Or better yet, transcompile? Or even better yet, just use Javascript because it's more powerful.

It's not about money. It's about convenience and ease of usage. Nobody wants to download shit to use a web service.
