I was wondering what are /prog/'s opinion on deploying on a VMWare image instead of an installer.
That's because i have a small app developed on Linux+Perl+PostgreSQL. The issue is that most customers does not have Linux installed, only Windows machines. So, i want to make the deployment on a VM and running on VMWare Player.
Memory is not such an issue because with 256MB of ram my app runs fine.
Also, there is the issue of security. I don't want anyone to just copy the Virtual Machine and take it home, so i guess it must be encrypted someway.
That is an unexpected way of adding hundreds or thousands of megabytes of bloat to your shitty desktop app without achieving anything of value.
2 gigabyte hello world, can you beat that?

As if somebody actually wants your VIP quality app.
A specialized hardware device collects data. The devices send the data to my service, then at the end of the day all services syncronize to a central server.
There are many devices (at least 10) in each installation. The clients are schools. Most of them don't want to install new computers. So i was thinking why not just distribute virtual machines so they can use existing hardware.

Oh that's so adorable, she just called herself empowered. Sure, Internet empowers you to annoy people with your idiocy. But it also empowers me to tell you to go back to the kitchen, to make yourself a cyanide-laced sandwich and to eat it.

You go back to your mother's basement... oh wait, you are there already.

Ah, the classical argumentum ad populum (leaving aside that you are far from having proven that the majority of proglodytes think you are always correct). Unfortunately for your logical Highness, it is a well-known fallacy.

Oh look, a philosopher!
No surprise you are a sexist pig, your leader Aristotle was one, too.
>>30 (and (sexist? Aristotle) (philosopher? Aristotle) (philosopher? X)) => (sexist? X) That is, leaving aside the fact that you have yet to prove that I am a philosopher.
You should be ashamed of your idiocy.

I don't have to prove what is evident to everyone but you.

Maybe use QEMU, but modified to support encrypted disk images that require you to supply the key for, which is node-locked via hardware hash to the computer that the virtual machine is running on.
