Deploying on virtual machines

Name: Anonymous 2012-06-26 11:38

Hi!

I was wondering what are /prog/'s opinion on deploying on a VMWare image instead of an installer.

That's because i have a small app developed on Linux+Perl+PostgreSQL. The issue is that most customers does not have Linux installed, only Windows machines. So, i want to make the deployment on a VM and running on VMWare Player.

Memory is not such an issue because with 256MB of ram my app runs fine.

Also, there is the issue of security. I don't want anyone to just copy the Virtual Machine and take it home, so i guess it must be encrypted someway.

Thanks, /prog/!

If you are a software contractor, you may impose whatever bondage upon your customer.  Not only is it legal, it is best practices.

Fuck you OP, and every other shithead who installs a whole VM just to run a small service or program. It's pure idiocy.

Bare metal hardware or nothing.

SADLY, NOT EVERYONE WANTS TO INSTALL LUNIX IN THEIR NETWORKS. THANKFULLY THAT DOES NOT MEAN YOU HAVE TO DEVELOP FOR WINBLOWS YOURSELF
