Privilege is an abstraction that describes patterns in society. That is all.
Why is it useful?  I've pointed out why I think it's a harmful abstraction, please point out why you think it's a good (therefore useful) abstraction.  I fail to see how studying privilege (as opposed to actual discrimination) is useful.

Any abstraction is useful in analyzing the phenomena they describe. It is useful as an individual to simply be aware of how the world works. I suppose you would question the usefulness of physics if it happened to be controversial enough for you to take offense from it.

But the teacher wont be able to make this evaluation without awareness of the student's past and understanding that not all schools are equal. And likewise, the underprivileged student may attribute their relatively slower progress to lack of talent or ability, when in reality, the student may be exposed to concepts that the others have been already working with for a number of years.
Bah, the education system needs an overhaul anyway, stuff like this being part of the reason.  It's hard to assign grades if you don't have standardized testing, but I suppose you could use the delta between tests throughout the year to determine the amount of growth and then grade based on that.  Or something like that.  I'd rather leave education reform to child psychologists.

The type of stuff you see on geek feminism does exist though. There are people that do argue those things.

In the case of the Debian IRC incident, I do agree that the official Debian IRC channel should be inclusive to everyone (it's just technical talk about a computer project after all) and that a separate unmoderated ##debian-offtopic channel should be used for off-colour and discriminatory jokes, and idle chat.  In fact, this should be the case for almost every official IRC channel.

Some (most) would go further to say that it should be censored and banned.
And this is why I want to fuck them in the ass with a rake.  I cannot stress enough how idiotic this is.  Seriously, free speech is what allowed us to get this far.  It is fundamental for me to know that I can make any kind of violent, discriminatory or political joke without any fear of repercussions.

What is your stance on pornography?  Mine is that the only war to be fought there is for ensuring equitable pay (as well as health services, etc.) for the involved females (which should be, needless to say, consenting).  I strongly believe in a ,,right to pornography'', and that banning it is an affront to the right to do-whatever-the-fuck-you-want-as-long-as-you're-not-hurting-anyone (this goes both for the viewers and the producers).

I found it very humorous because of that.  While one can argue that it is objectifying, it is not directly sexist.  I argue that it's acceptable because the entire point of the joke is to insult the reader (this attractive female will never have sexual relations with you).
