Trying to learn Haskell; need some help.

I'm 1/4 into "Learn you a Haskell for a greater good" and I find that I still can't practically do anything with Haskell.

1. Is this normal?
2. Is there a faster approach out there?

1. Yes
2. Scheme

1. Yes.
2. LYaHfGG is not much better or worse than the other books out there.  Finish it and then read Real World Haskell.  And then read code, lots of it.

Real World Haskell

Now that you brought that up. I actually was going through "Real World Haskell" before I began reading the current book and I was put off because the example source was outdated in more than three cases.

Is it still a good book to go through? Is there maybe a source with an update version?

Which programs don't work?  GHC's Haskell didn't change much since the publication of the book, mainly it's exceptions (try Control.OldException) and the recent separation of Num and Eq).
