none of you exist

you are all a figment of my imagination

but you have no imagination

my imagination is like my penis -- it isn't very big, but it still exists, so it still counts

Name: Anonymous 2012-02-04 17:57

how do you know you are not a figment of your penis' imagination?

Solipsism is bad and you should feel bad about yourself.

provide irrefutable proof that you aren't a figment of my imagination

I don't have to, nor is there any such communicable proof. I just know I'm conscious, without being able to communicate that fact to you in a way that you can trust/verify. You seem to know that you're conscious as well. With a few small assumptions your hypothesis would be shown wrong, but with only the assumption that you have a 'mind', it cannot be shown wrong. Either way, it's not my job to prove something of this sort to you because I can't prove you have a mind either, at least not without me taking certain assumptions (which I tend to take, but I cannot truly know if they are correct). Solipsism is bad for other reasons as well: it prevents all useful reasoning about reality, about what is moral/ethical behavior, why everyone is acting like they have minds and yet you're making the strong claim of excluding the existence of all minds but yours.

Perhaps I am you. Hmmm?

Might not be impossible if you consider a concept like an ``universal mind'', but you'd have to "provide irrefutable proof" (haha, no) that no countably infinite histories exist for some people if you want to make the timeline linear. In a way, it might be possible if you allow forgetting or amensia (up to zero knowledge), but while that can make sense, it's not very useful: I do know that, you(>>8) and me(>>7) don't share the same body/brain/memories/..., thus we are different people, thus 'you' (>>8) are not 'me'(>>7). So while there's no way to know if we don't share some "universal mind" (if total amnesia is allowed), I do know for certain that at this point in time, we don't share body/brain/memories, and for all practical purposes we're different people.

OP prove it

kill yourself, if you are the only one left. You are right, however if we still exist you are wrong

You're not a beutiful or unique snowflake.

But if you are, you have one hell of an imagination.

Get some fiends and hang out. You won't feel as alone and isolated. That thought would then seem absurd.

Loose your fiends and hang out. You won't feel as dependent and controlled. That thought would then seem reasonable.

Don't change these.
