An introductory tome on AI

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-31 12:35

I am looking for a good introduction to the subject of AI. I have heard of the Stanford AI class but I'd really like to progress at my own pace and so prefer a book. Can you please recommend me one?

Me again. I forgot to add that ideally it should not be overly-basic kiddie stuff - simply a book that does not assumes you are familiar with the subject, but which is fully ready to go into it in depth after introducing the basics.

Thank you but I am looking for a book. In addition, the material seemed to assume I was computer-illiterate and completely unable to program, where I look for a book that only assumes I am unfamiliar with the subject of AI.

What do you have against AIAMA?
You can also use M.I.T iCampus for 6.034 and study at your own pace. http://icampustutor.csail.mit.edu/6.034-public/

Nothing - I was speaking of the online class that Stanford are currently offering, which I am not interested in. If you recommend the book written by the instructors I will surely give it a look.

I have the second edition edition of AIAMA and I thoroughly recommend it. It touches on everything an introductory text should without being too general or specific. Although perhaps the order in which the content is presented could be improved. It served me as an introduction and now it serves me as a reference.

Still no PAIP? PAIP, then.

Common Lisp is nice, but the content of AIMA far more extensive.

M.I.T has switched from AIAMA to Artificial Intelligence by Winston. I don't know what it's worth, I've never read it.
