Ubuntu 11.10

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-14 5:31

This shit is unacceptable.  Unity is shit.  GNOME is more crippled than ever (the UI team must be having an internal "most crippled interface" contest).  Xubuntu is dysfunctional.  Should I even bother trying KDE4 or is it still crashing every 20 minutes like last time I checked?

Name: Cirno 2011-10-14 5:34

If it's not Plan9, it's baka.

How about too-cool-for-package-signing ArchLinux?

Ubuntu is meant to be good enough for average computer users who need to be social and enjoy rich media experiences.
Go install linux you fucking nerd.

Ubuntu is GNU/Linux you fucking moron. Now go scrub another mental midget you human toilet.

Kubuntu is great. Use it.

Okay, so you hate Linux. That's all cool and dandy, but why do you feel the urge to tell people not to use Linux?

It's not your business, so do something useful instead.

>>13
Then how about you just stick to archlinux instead of shitting up all technology boards like only an autist would do?

Absolutely nobody gives a flying fuck about your pointless opinion. Archlinux are pretty much like gentoo users, constantly bitching about absolutely uninteresting shit.

hey guys not to derail this thread any further but my ubuntu is actually updating RIGHT NOW you have 20 minutes to tell me what is wrong with 11.10 please!!!!!!!!

10 minutes oh god internet speed you so crazy

You're fucked!

The only solution is to clumsily open up a gnome-terminal (or if you are a h4xx0r use /dev/tty[1-6]), and type in:
sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop && reboot

Hey autist,  I'm complaining about it but I'm going to stick with it anyway (not like I have a choice, Debian is slow as fuck and every other distro is shit, and yes, that includes yours).  I'll just try to somehow tone down KDE4 so it doesn't consume 150% of my netbook's 1GB of RAM.

Name: FrozenVoid 2011-10-14 10:45

I would actually use the terminal in Lunix since the GUI is written by retards who don't anything about user interface and usability.
Plus its ten times slower than XP,and every little app takes as much memory as half of XP system procesess(about 30-40mb).

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-14 12:04

what a piece of shit.. did they actually remove themes and options and oh my god i hate ubuntu

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-14 12:11

Why in the hell Linux widgets are so rubish, compared to slime MacOSX UI?!! The corners of Linux buttons look like they were chewed up by rats, window layouts bloated with crap, some buttons take half a window, text is always misaligned, font hinting disabled. Yeah, baby, that is Linux - the ugliest OS ever done by man.

Just do the only sane thing left to do and switch to KDE4.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-14 12:15

how i wish there were some default desktop environment made by gnu.. somewhat decent, almost never updated, shit would default to it, it would have a default icon set.. but noo, let's shit on the users

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-14 12:26

Unity is annoying as fuck. I tried modifying one of the settings (transparency or some shit), and now it just stopped working. I got pissed and completely removed it, and now life is so much easier.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-14 12:38

Why don't you use stumpwm?

You know, you're a dickhead. BUT a dickhead who seems to speak the truth sometimes.

I just upgraded Ubuntu; And naturally logged into what used to be called ``Ubuntu-classic'' (ye olde gnome2 interface).

But apparently, that too has been replaced with a total rewrite, making it look like a poor spinoff off the real thing, Gnome2.

I tried installing ``gnome, gnome-core'' and co, but no avail.

If I could fly/drive to whereever those Unity devs sit around, I'd do it in an instant. I'd bring a baseball bat spiked with rusty nails, and SMASH THEIR STUPID HIPSTER PRICK FACES GODDAMN I'M SO ANGRY RIGHT NOWHWDFKWEFUHQEWIFDHKENKF

Anyway, you can see where this is going: I hope canonical gets their shit together, and either releases fixes so people can install and actually use Gnome2, or it'll be KDE4 for me.

Or maybe a total switch to Fedora15.

Tiling window managers are shit.

I'm fucking tired of seeing visible redraw artifacts and slow response times. It's fucking 2011 for fuck's sake. Neither Windows 7 or OS X suffer from these problems. Compositing window managers on Linux, while still suffering from the occasional artifact or redraw glitch, are vastly superior to the archaic tiling WMs.

I sure as fuck hope Wayland is successfull at replacing X-Windows, and the bulk of tiling WMs built around supporting it, in the near future.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-14 16:21

>>43
I'm not in the habit of moving windows around manually in a tiling wm, and neither should you be.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-14 17:45

Ubuntu's fine. I had a lot of problems with it before 11.04, mainly with stability and driver compatibility, but it's been working great since I upgraded. Unity's okay if all you need is a clean simple interface. If you'd rather make your desktop look like an animu-ridden pile of shit so you can show off your aesthetic retardation to your /g/ buddies, then maybe it's not for you.

If you're one of those faggots who has Linux and doesn't use the command line 90% of time, you should probably just go back to Microsoft, please !

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-14 18:03

Could you make a tiling window manager with Penrose tiles? Because that would be kind of nerdy and cool.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-15 0:20

i'd recommend trying
``apt-cache search "window manager"''

Name: >>1 2011-10-15 3:59

KDE4 seems to be going nicely, at least after blowing up the old config and disabling the bullshit features like desktop search and the gay "activities" shit as well as thoroughly massaging all the stupid default settings.  And in one day it's only crashed X.org twice (that is, with 3D/compositing disabled -- otherwise it crashes immediately).

Still better than ````Unity''''.

I think we should create user friendly closed source OS in Scheme. It will feature uniformity, minimalistic GUI, low system requirements, and definetely will beat all crap from Linux.
