/prog/ memes

I see almost none these days. Though they all were still there only half a year ago. /prog/ is so sterile now. I think it exhausted its potential...

There are a few that some people have tried forcing and they're just terrible (so terrible to actually make me stop visiting /prog/ for a while, and now it's even worse (how can that be? the content is also lacking now(presumably because more people left and more newbies came))).

I heard tdavis was working on his LISP meme. Looking forward to that one.

Is LISP a serious language?  It has lots of fans.  Why?

Over the years, I've encountered a few things that require a different way of thinking -- SQL and PLC ladder logic, come to mind.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ladder_logic  I don't really like them.

I thought about writing a LISP compiler.  LoseThos is for recreational programming, so it would be appropriate.  Honestly, is it good for something like this tank game's artificial intelligence?  http://www.losethos.com/videos/tanks.html  That problem seems very similar to compiler optimizations, in my mind.

Anyway, I'd like to hear honest opinions of LISP, not from some kids who are primarily trying to brag and show-off elitism.  I also don't want to hear from homos who get-off on irrational elegance, like being proud that their soup cupboard has alphabetized cans and ... no gaps, or something.  People get irrationally drawn to neat elegant things.

What's great with Lispers is that in 20 years they'll still talk of the same success stories, the same gurus (Paul Gragam, Philip Greenspun).
With Viaweb, another classic story is Naughty Dog, the only enterprise that produced modern games with some Lisp inside; of course, that name became a cult. When someone asks in a newsgroup for advice about video games creation there's always some guy saying Lisp is THE language for video games, that ey needs Lisp and nothing else, and that Jak&Daxter was a success thanks to Lisp, and hail Naughty Dog.

I don't post memes anymore because a) no one from reddit/prog/ would understand them, and b) because I've read every good /prog/ meme so often that I no longer find them very amusing.
