I'm now working on a IRC gateway for personal use. To read a thread, I simply /join #thread-id. The topic is the subject of the thread-id and the replies to the thread will be sent as PRIVMSGs. To respond to the thread, I simply type my message in the #thread channel (as you'd expect).

The /motd of the server is a list of the most active threads, and the /list command uses subject.txt

my question is: wtf is the third field in that file all about?

I'm currently working on an imageboard interface+archiver which I'll run on my VPS. I'll connect to it with a GUI and I'll get cute notifications in the lower right corner of my screen every time a reply is made to a thread I'm watching or a person with a given trip posts on one of the archived boards.

There's no elegant way to do that afaik. All you can do is search for your post in the list of active threads.

just save subject.txt whenever you start scraping and compare it with the previous subject.txt, this way you can reliably catch all new posts. since my archive is just list i can use familiar operators (memf, foldr, filter) to query it.

of course this list is way to big for day to day /prog/ing, for which i just use the code in >>3 (well, i use aliases and wrappers for that code).

i'm still working on a macro system for my expert BBCode.

no no no, you wouldn't
"Just /join an arbitrary id and make a post."...

you'd create new threads by joining #new,
where you'd set the /topic to the title of your message
and type away.

you'd end with a line that says 'post!',
at which point the server'd put the channel +m
and post the log in a new thread on /prog/.

it'd then look for the thread on /prog/
and move you to the correct #thread-id.
