Internet redesign

Name: !KPP4lSNdJU 2010-11-05 23:20

I've been thinking about redesiging the internet.

So far I have a mental picture of: -

1. HTTP removed and replaced with something stateful.
2. Sat a top of a distributed scalable platform.
3. TCP can stay.

It reminds me of Netsukuku[1][2], and it sucks.

Interesting looks like freenet.

Although I don't think anonymity should be a requirement, it introduces too much complexity.

We wouldn't have to remove HTTP we could just create a new protocol.

nnet://foo.bar

Then we could we could modify the existing browsers.

Or just we don't reinvent the wheel.

I've read that + K&R + a whole host of other material years ago.

Do you have a point?

Let's try and make at least one constructive thread!

By the way, designing a new internet protocol is not ``redesigning the internet'', it's just putting other abstractions over it.

I want to replace HTTP & DNS & HTML & ALL ASSOCIATED WWW TECHNOLGY so maybe my wording was somewhat broad but a subset nevertheless.

Careful not to misquote. He's talking about redesiging the internet.

Good luck replacing things that everyone uses daily without giving a fuck of how they work.
Computing these days is not like 90s where only nerds used computers, now even my toaster can connect to the internet, making SO MUCH HARDER just replacing ipv4 with ipv6.
Does everyone use ipv6? No.
If a so harmful change like switching from ipv4 to ipv6 is so difficult, think about replacing the protocol, the name resolving system, the markup language (if you really don't want to write in HTML, use CGI+whatever you want) and deprecating ALL THE EXISTING WEB how much would be difficult.

I've been thinking about making a new Best Girl Friends group.

So far I have a mental picture of: -

1. Suzie removed and replaced with someone useful.
2. Sat a top of a distributed treehouse platform.
3. Tammy C. can stay.
