Python Vs Visual Basic

Name: !tehgamesAI 2010-10-22 11:27

I don't want to initiate a flame war, i just want your opinion on this subject.

I recently started working with an architect that needed to sort a bunch of data on some xls files, he used to do that by hand and it took a lot of time, he hired me because a friend of mine told him that I could code something to automatize that task, well, I started coding in python and in a week i had the program to do exactly what he wanted, he asked me to code something to input data process it and get an output formatted into a xls file, i wrote that program in 12 days, but i started to have some issues with the GUI (mostly because I'm used to code cli apps), meanwhile, the architect asked me to teach him python so he could "help me" with the development of the programs I'm making, well, after a couple of weeks of tutoring he couldn't understand it very well, and now he told me that I need to learn VB and that all new programs need to be written in VB (6 or .NET, I don't know), I guess it's because he understands VB a little better I don't know.

Anyway /prog/ what would you do? stick with python (an easy, portable and free language) or move to VB (a MS-Windows non-free language)

Stupid question. Did you just make this thread to show off your tripcode?

To be honest, I have to say it's a pretty cool tripcode.

The "architect" wants to "understand" your Python code or have you write it in VisualBarfic so he can kick you off the job and then take all the credit and the money. Plain and simple.

Remember: When it's "not about the money..."; it's always about the money.

Time for you to refactor that shit using Use Perl's Spreadsheet::ParseExcel.

Err um Perl's 'use Spreadsheet::ParseExcel;' rather

I usually don't code for a living so i was just asking for your opinion anon...

I was thinking about this also...

Fuck his shit. If he doesn't know the first thing about programming and he wants you to force you into a language other than what you're used to doing, he better have a fuqin good reason.

I think that was >>7-kun's point, friend Anon. He does have a faqin good reason: he wants to screw >>1-kun out of a job.

Fuck off, ``faggot''.

Python.

Also, what features are still to be implemented? Which toolkit are you using?

Name: Anonymous 2010-10-24 21:51

Write it in code-golf-style Perl and intentionally break one feature.  Charge him $500 to fix it.

Your post made me laugh very hard. Thank you, kind stranger.

A small database (i was thinking about csv like it says in the tutorial http://docs.python.org/library/csv.html?highlight=csv#module-csv) and maybe some output on a spreadsheet (my progams put the data into a xls, but in some cases we need to see the data before writing it to a xls)

i'm using wxPython (Boa Constructor)
