Python Vs Visual Basic

I don't want to initiate a flame war, i just want your opinion on this subject.

I recently started working with an architect that needed to sort a bunch of data on some xls files, he used to do that by hand and it took a lot of time, he hired me because a friend of mine told him that I could code something to automatize that task, well, I started coding in python and in a week i had the program to do exactly what he wanted, he asked me to code something to input data process it and get an output formatted into a xls file, i wrote that program in 12 days, but i started to have some issues with the GUI (mostly because I'm used to code cli apps), meanwhile, the architect asked me to teach him python so he could "help me" with the development of the programs I'm making, well, after a couple of weeks of tutoring he couldn't understand it very well, and now he told me that I need to learn VB and that all new programs need to be written in VB (6 or .NET, I don't know), I guess it's because he understands VB a little better I don't know.

Anyway /prog/ what would you do? stick with python (an easy, portable and free language) or move to VB (a MS-Windows non-free language)
