Beginner looking for help.

I picked up a book in my dad's garage today and started looking through it. Made me want to learn C++(I took it in HS for a sem..but back then I was distracted). What are some good programs that would allow me to write/test code?(I can't remember what program we used in HS for the life of me. It was made by Microsoft though)

Thanks for the help

1. Do not learn C++.
2. emacs and g++. Of course, you sound like you should be using Eclipse and CDT instead.
3. Do not return.

Why not learn C++?

| Do not learn C++
| g++

Why would someone need to use g++ if you're telling them to not learn C++.

Anyway OP, either MSVC++ 2010 Express (it's free for download) for development on Windows, or install a Linux distro and use GCC.

Don't bother with Cygwin, MinGW, DevC++ or any other shitty Windows GCC port, they all fucking suck.

If you know a bunch of other programming languages, yeah, learn C++. You may want to learn C first though. Even though C++ is very different, C teaches you a lot of low-level stuff you need, like pointers.

If you don't know anything about programming, for the love of FSM, don't learn C++. Learn something else, like Python. Get a beginner's Python book or just read SICP.

CodeLite and Code::Blocks are Integrated Development editors, Pretty sure both support at least C and C++.

I'm not sure how Code::Blocks is, but CodeLite has a makefile generator and stuff, so I can quickly just type some stuff in, build the project, and run it

I don't see why /prague/ seems so opposed to our new
