Why the hatred for PHP?

Name: Anonymous 2010-05-04 23:14

I never understood this. I have never even seen it until I started using image boards, and people were claiming wakaba was superior then everything else because it was written in perl.

What is so bad about PHP? I've always viewed PHP as a simplistic language that is easy to learn. Apparently there is something extremely wrong with it though, that if you use you are considered an "amateur" programmer.

I know I will be sent to the imageboards for this, but there is only one word that can describe my feelings upon reading >>1: facepalm.

I'm just going to tell you to lurk more. >>1 is a phenomenon known as ``kopipe''.

RAM ASUS already consider himself an amateur you know.

php does shitty OOP

php does shit. Thread over.

It doesn't force the user to indent code, so how could this thread possibly be over?

It is easy to program, but not exceptionally easy to learn. Java, for instance, is much easier to learn due to it's poor feature set, but it's harder to program than PHP (not very flexible until you implement all those FactoryFactory things to do the job). I think so.

shitty unicode support
justified adding gotos with a shitty XKCD comic
standard library is ass
no debugger lol

the fact that PHP only works inside a hypertext tags in a webbrowser kills a lot of potential that it could have. If it worked as a regular stand alone compiler more people would use it.

ie javascript was modified to become actionscript

It doesn't only work there. In fact, it doesn't work there at all. HIBT?

!#/usr/bin/php doesn't work for you??

errr
#!/bin...

No, desktop PHP applications are fucking awful, even more so than web based. And does PHP still fuck up all the error message line numbers if you have a hashbang?

What the world needs is standalone JS that doesn't require a custom-built interpreter.

I concur.  I want to write programs in JavaScript!

How do you intend to run your code without a Javascript interpreter? Do you expect CPython to be able to run it?

I meant as in having some sort of 'import' statement standardized. Spidermonkey et al. are very limited in functionality without the ability to load external libraries.

Sure it does. http://pyjs.org/

JS is even a bigger pile of shit than PHP. No wonder why: both of them started out as garage projects (neither one really evolve beyond that).

Seriously, functions are not bound to objects in JS, what is this bullshit? I know you can hack your way through with apply(), but that is not a solution.

Who was the insane FUCK who thought any high level language will do good without object bound methods? I know it's useful in some cases that a single function can reference different objects via the this keyword, but nah.

Poor soul, thinks Java/Sepples/Python/etc objects are the only way to do OO

PHP is shit stacked on shit. This is not a generic insult, I literally mean what it says. The security is bad, and it doesn't help that PHP programmers are usually terrible programmers in general so they'd probably be unsafe in any programming environment anyways.

OP, you should learn Perl. It's not hard at all. It has strict mode!

Name: Anonymous 2010-05-06 11:28

>>25
sure but does Perl have StrictAnal?

Name: Anonymous 2010-05-06 11:28

Wow I fucked up that sage

Name: Anonymous 2010-05-06 11:33

Perl has Taint Mode. That alone makes Perl > PHP.

Name: Anonymous 2010-05-06 11:34

Sometimes I feel I've got to
Run away I've got to
Get away
From the pain that you drive into the heart of me
The love we share
Seems to go nowhere
And I've lost my light
For I toss and turn I can't sleep at night

(chorus)
Once I ran to you (I ran)
Now I'll run from you
This tainted love you've given
I give you all a boy could give you
Take my tears and that's not nearly all
Oh...tainted love
Tainted love

Now I know I've got to
Run away I've got to
Get away
You don't really want IT any more from me
To make things right
You need someone to hold you tight
And you'LL think love is to pray
But I'm sorry I don't pray that way

(chorus...)

Don't touch me please
I cannot stand the way you tease
I love you though you hurt me so
Now I'm going to pack my things and go
Tainted love, tainted love (x2)
Touch me baby, tainted love (x2)
Tainted love (x3)

Don't change these.
