So, my whole internet browsing life I have found it endlessly frustrating that Firefox does not allow the modification of its scroll-bars. I don't care what w3c recommends at all. I just want it. End of story. I'm sure a lot of you feel that way, too! Will someone experienced help us out?

yeah, changing the code would fix on one individual person's browser, but no way would Firefox adopt that for the entirety of its browser. firefox will follow w3c off of a freaking precipice if w3c went first.

My solution is perfect. If a site wants to change the scrollbar color, add scrolling/flashing marques, have a midi BGM, some nice custom ActiveX controls, what browser other than IE you might want? No FireFox or Opera or other modern browsers can compete with IE there. If your site needs those features, and your users need those features, they WILL get IE or simply not get those features. If you want to make sure they get IE, add a server-side check for the user-agent and simply display a "UPGRADE TO IE4-6 IF YOU WISH TO VIEW THIS SITE" page. If users truly care about your site and your content they will get IE.

While I may have been partially joking, I've seen quite a few commercial companies do just that. It's especially popular with Korean MMORPG makers, they demand users use their own ActiveX control for logging in, and authorizing the user (also install anticheat spyware in some cases). The server-side User-Agent check is also present sometimes, but I've seen some other people do the exact same troll in reverse: reject IE clients unconditionally.

It's not within your right to modify the scrollbar colors, because the scrollbar is not a proper part of your website. You are designing the book, not the bookshelf.
Meanwhile, if you really want custom scrollbars, there are plenty of options for you out there using javascript and overflow: hidden.
When I read OP I thought he was talking about modifying his own browser.
Are you trying to emulate the horror of all personal websites from a decade passed? No self respecting web dev will do such a disgusting thing as what >>12 mentioned.
I wonder if a firefox addon to play an 8 bit christmas song, add falling snowflakes and drape tinsel around the scrollbars would get many downloads.
