From a Jew's face
The wicked Devil speaks to us,
The Devil who, in every country,
Is known as an evil plague.

Would we from the Jew be free,
Again be cheeful and happy,
Then must youth fight with us
To get rid of the Jewish Devil.

Enjoy a programming language 200x slower than C.
Enjoy not being able to run more than a thread at a time.

>Enjoy a programming language 200x slower than C.
Who cares?
>Enjoy not being able to run more than a thread at a time.
'Tis not a bug, 'tis a feature. GIL exists for a good reason, and if it really annoys you, try Stackless, for instance.

Python is a fine language but Guido is ruining it as much as he can.

Who cares?
I care, specially considering even fucking JavaScript is trouncing it in performance right now.

GIL exists for a good reason
Yeah - except it isn't even a thread at a time. Trying to use multiple threads slows it down below the speed of a single thread. Jesus Fucking Christ.

print "Hello"[1:3]
>>> el

So the first element of the subscript (in this case, 1) [i]starts from 0[i] and indicates the first character to start at.  The second element, however, starts counting from 1 -- even though the number before it CLEARLY FUCKING INDICATED THAT THE FIRST CHARACTER WAS CHARACTER 0 RATHER THAN CHARACTER 1.

EXPERT LANGUAGE DESIGN CHOICE !!!!

Oh and JavaScript also supports multiple threads properly - today.

You're thinking about it in the wrong way. Please look carefully at the following diagram:

+---+---+---+---+---+
 | H | e | l | p | A |
 +---+---+---+---+---+
 0   1   2   3   4   5
-5  -4  -3  -2  -1

Another way to understand it is that in your example, you're asking for 3 - 1 = 2 characters.

That is true.  But I'd still prefer it my way.

If you're a fucking moron, it's a feature. Scheme, Tcl, JavaScript, Factor, Perl, Smalltalk, Lua, Ruby, and even fucking *PHP* seem to have figured this one out. Granted, in true PHP fashion, they got it *wrong*, but at least they gave it a good try instead of sitting on their ass and declaring it not a bug, which is really something you'd expect Microsoft to do. Problem is *Gweedo* is actually utterly incompetent and doesn't want to implement anything complex in the core of python because he wouldn't be able to understand how it works then.

Lack of TCO is the least of CPython's problems.
