'Tis not a bug, 'tis a feature. GIL exists for a good reason, and if it really annoys you, try Stackless, for instance.

Another way to understand it is that in your example, you're asking for 3 - 1 = 2 characters.

If you're a fucking moron, it's a feature. Scheme, Tcl, JavaScript, Factor, Perl, Smalltalk, Lua, Ruby, and even fucking *PHP* seem to have figured this one out. Granted, in true PHP fashion, they got it *wrong*, but at least they gave it a good try instead of sitting on their ass and declaring it not a bug, which is really something you'd expect Microsoft to do. Problem is *Gweedo* is actually utterly incompetent and doesn't want to implement anything complex in the core of python because he wouldn't be able to understand how it works then.
