Hey /prog/, why does people (expecially debian people) hate ubuntu?

Imagine a giant penis flying towards your mouth, and there's nothing you can do about it. And you're like "Oh man, I'm gonna have to suck this thing", and you brace yourself to suck this giant penis. But then, at the last moment, it changes trajectory and hits you in the eye. You think to yourself "Well, at least I got that out of the way", but then the giant penis rears back and stabs your eye again, and again, and again. Eventually, this giant penis is penetrating your gray matter, and you begin to lose control of your motor skills. That's when the giant penis slaps you across the cheek, causing you to fall out of your chair. Unable to move and at your most vulnerable, the giant penis finally lodges itself in your anus, where it rests uncomfortably for 4, maybe 5 hours. That's what using ubuntu is like.
They mainly hate it because a lot of the userbase is like "LOL LINUCKS IS SO LEET" and they are the same people that ask "HOW I INSTALL ITUNES? LOL"
It's kind of like hating Halo, the game itself is mediocre but the fanbase pushes it over the edge.

Ubantu >>just works<< for me. You should check it out, just don't visit ubantuforams.
>>7--chan got the essence of the problem, but now, where is the answer to the question where this knowlegde leads us to? Who is willing to present a trolling free answer on how to get this problem solved?
>>8
Ubanto is hardly the only linux distro that "just works" and lacks anything really distinctive. It seems (to me at least) to be popular solely because it's popular. The advice about ubantoforums is good advice.

There are people who likes ubanto and people who doesn't like it. I'm one of the latter, however I think there's no way to make a trolling free discussion as long as the discussion regards two opposite battlefronts.
As my personal opinion ubuntu may be a good system for users, but it definitely sucks if you are going to do something more difficult than read your mailbox or surf the web.
The main point that makes me hate it is how the user simply obtains what he wants (i.e. a working system) just without any effort, while when I started using GNU/Linux it was really hard to survive. So when you feel you are a real man, here it comes a bunch of lusers and start answering to questions like "How to configure the network" with a "just click here"-like answer, without knowing ANYTHING about what the Network is. As direct consequences ubuntu taints the leet-sphere with useless people who, just a couple of years ago, were just sucking on windows.
Yeah, you may argue for the freedom benefit for the luser, and actually you are right: one more using ubuntu is one less using windows, and this may lead to many advantages... but this is not enough to make me appreciate ubuntu.

I tried BSD, and I tried openSuse, and I spent far too much time setting things up. Ubanto has everything set up, and you can change it if it doesn't suit you (and you should), but at least things work from the very beginning.

You sound like someone who is fine with not using readily made tools because TECHNICAL SURVIVAL makes you hardcore. I don't think I like you.

Yes, something similar. And I'm not here to delight your personality with mine, so I don't care if you like me.
Here's my point: suppose that something doesn't work: I will find out a way to make it work, while you (where for "you" I obviously mean a just-works generic guy, not yourself) will just complain because it doesn't work automagically.

Actually, I (and a few other generic guys I know that use ubanto) would read wikipedia articles and man pages on the subject, then look at some snippets, and use the power of analogy to solve the problem. The people at ubantuforums would whine, but these people are not only negligible, but also have no affiliations with you or me whatsoever (well, maybe they have the same OS as me installed).

...and? I feel a little dumb, what are you trying to point out?

Excellent point. I got a little carried away, excuse me. What I meant was this:
"Fuck regular ubantu users. Why do you care that they will wonder why it doesn't work?".

Ok, you are not totally wrong... I may just stop thinking about it and put a "-ubuntu" in all my google searches. This would definitely work...
Still I'm missing the old good days when you needed to work hard and get knowledge in order to reach your objective... today's greenhorns have everything ready and waiting, and I'm a bit concerned about the possible lost of knowledge...

OP here: ok, fine. Is there any reason for stopping using it?

*sigh* If you feel like something doesn't work out, then stop. If you like it, don't. Seriously, must you ask?
ehm i have to say i used debian for some years and then i switched to ubuntu but only for one main reasons = non-free content, easy setup tools.
I didnt wanted to look up every single bit of stuff that i wanted to do while reading 7 different threads on 7 different sites. Still the worst thing anyone can do is ask a question on ubartuforums, they creep the shit out of me, simple yet most stupid answers ever heard. Every single grocery store clerk acting like a full fledged server admin coach. I think best way is to stay far away from the community of this "thing" Ubuntu itself as distribution is nice if you want something else then debian which is for me the best solution even if they are a little 1337 and always want only open content at work etz.
Personal comment of the author:
my opinion dont read it if your not bored.

i hate Ubuntu because its users are generally elitists and morons who think they're actually better than other people (namely Windows users) because they're using Windows Linux (aka Ubuntu).
i also hate the fact that you can get by without EVER using the command line. a powerful shell is IMO the biggest thing that Linux and BSD have over Windows, and yet, Ubuntu is all about pretty colours and shiny buttons. i doubt most Ubuntu users even know what ls is.
The problem with Ubuntu is that every kid who's used it for six months and had to install driver the first week for Compiz to perform and Extra Flashiness has an unwarranted feeling of technical skill.
Following that, trying to find information about the OS demands that you deal with those people, and the atrocities on technical discussion that they have wrought.
You don't get the well-reasoned technical explanation that you get from, say, Slackware users. You get goddamn signatures and sophist explanations from dicks with cutesy crazy penguins in their avatars.

Oh, damn, you are right, expecially on the "ever using the command line" argument.

So you can have the worst of both worlds?
The only possible advantage Windows offers is that it comes preinstalled on consumer PCs, so your hardware is guaranteed to work at least adequately out of the box. The actual solution for people inept enough to need that is actually a Dell or equivalent that comes with Ubanto preinstalled.

You tell me any game worth playing works fine and then when I tell you what games I want to play you call me a hipster and say I have no taste? I shouldn't have to limit myself to only games that Wine will support if I don't have to.

I propose that you all shut up and let people use whatever OS they need to play their games.
