Actually, I (and a few other generic guys I know that use ubanto) would read wikipedia articles and man pages on the subject, then look at some snippets, and use the power of analogy to solve the problem. The people at ubantuforums would whine, but these people are not only negligible, but also have no affiliations with you or me whatsoever (well, maybe they have the same OS as me installed).
