Poor Windows programmers. Keep using Java and pretending your OS doesn't suck.

Also, what is Fedora like? I'd like to buy a new laptop, since my old iron is gonna fsck up, so I eventually need to install an operating system, and this could be a good chance to explore what the scenario offers.

Hurd. It breaks all the time, but I'm a hacker, I share the software and I'm freeeeee
I'm going to write an operating system as a project.
* i have no qualms about using windows drivers/dlls since they are standard
*it would be a microkernel-based system with minimized context switch time

you're an idiot.
you have no focus.
you're always beginning large projects that you will never complete because you get bored and go do something else.
Preliminary name is: V, the operating system.
It would be 64-bit only.

A free press is not a privilege but an organic necessity in a great society. Without criticism and reliable and intelligent reporting, the government cannot govern. For there is no adequate way in which it can keep itself informed about what the people of the country are thinking and doing and wanting.
It would be based on optimized 64-bit assembler macros.
(Assembler would be the main development language)

Free flow of information is the only safeguard against tyranny. The once-chained people whose leaders at last lose their grip on information flow will soon burst with freedom and vitality, but the free nation gradually constricting its grip on public discourse has begun its rapid slide into despotism. Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master.

The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong in the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry.

We hold life to be sacred, but we also know the foundation of life consists in a stream of codes not so different from the successive frames of a watchvid. Why then cannot we cut one code short here, and start another there? Is life so fragile that it can withstand no tampering? Does the sacred brook no improvement?
Now you are designing an operating system to run your game too?
I know my vaguely following these shitty troll threads means that IHBT, but none the less, I suggest you read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scope_creep
>>20
Perhaps I should of quoted the relevant part, Scope creep can be a result of:
* disingenuous customer with a determined value for free policy
* poor change control
* lack of proper initial identification of what is required to bring about the project objectives
* weak project manager or executive sponsor
* poor communication between parties
* Agile software development based on subjective quantifications.
...weak project manager or executive sponsor
I'm not "weak" in any sense. I just provide open-source freedom for developers.

The knowable world is incomplete if seen from any one point of view, incoherent if seen from all points of view at once, and empty if seen from nowhere in particular.
The OS will provide an API which will be easy to develop games on(i.e. reducing every step and integrating them into standard library). And a compiler C-like language in development(for the OS).

>>26 DNF is not in development. But why concentrate on DNF when you could create any game?
The OS API and Integrated IDE would make this easy.

The crucial and monumental development in the art music of our century has been the qualitative change in the foundational premises of our musical language--the change from a highly chromaticized tonality whose principle functions and operations are still based on a limited selection, the seven notes of the diatonic scale, from the universal set of twelve pitch classes to a scale that comprehends the total pitch-class content of that universal set. We can point to the moment of that change with some precision. It occurs most obviously in the music of Scriabin and the Vienna circle, Schoenberg, Webern, and Berg, in 1909-1910, and very soon afterwards, though less obviously, in the music of Bartok and Stravinsky. I think it is safe to say that nothing of comparable signifigance for music has ever occurred, because the closing of the circle of fifths gives us a symmetrical collection of all twelve pitch classes that eliminates the special structural function of the perfect fifth itself, which has been the basis of every real musical system that we have hitherto known.

Because anybody who hasn't compiled their own Linux kernel obviously has no idea how to actually use a computer. Go back to bed and let the adults talk about grownup stuff. It's way over your head.

Why would I do that, when it's already done for me in a way that satisfies me? Were I disappointed with Ubanto, I'd have installed something else, but I see no reason to do so right now.
>>43 Several reasons:
1.They got new hardware which has to be compiled into kernel.
2.They got a shiny new kernel and they want to run it.
3.They have a buggy kernel build which should be replaced.
4.They applied some patch(making that kernel more fast or fixing lunix bugs) and have to test it.
>>46 linux is so amazing
It's not amazing. Unlike Windows, it ``just works''. windows users are all idiots
Not precisely; some people are forced to use Windows, and I don't mind; most people are ignorant to how computers really work, and I don't mind either, they don't need more. Programmers, mathematicians, physicists, etc. that use Windows out of their free will are idiots.

1.pop XP disk(preferably SP2)
2.delete all partitions/format drive with NTFS
3.Install, enter code.
4.Install drivers.(should have a driver disk)
5.Download videolan,firefox,etc.
6.Disable useless services, set control panel settings, apply registry patches.
7.new comp ready to work.

The porn games I play many. For example now I'm playing Sharin no Kuni, Yuukyuu no Shounen Shoujo (which works fine under wine) and have another 3 games installed but not finished (Ruitomo, SMG, DCIITY).
