Strategy Game Development 2

Name: =+=*=F=R=O=Z=E=N==V=O=I=D=*=+= !frozEn/KIg 2009-07-29 2:14

I've decided to change direction in development of Velox Et Astrum.
The game will be created under these development principles:
1.One Design - Multiple Implementations.
2.All aspects are reviewed by everyone.
3.No deadlines or concrete dates.
4.Each opinion and suggestion has to be proved and explained.(otherwise its discarded)
5.No restrictions on language/toolkit/libraries(see 1.)
If you have something complex to discuss is better handled by forum mentioned in my sig.

How do ideas come? What a question! If they come of their own accord, they are apt to arrive at the most unexpected time and place. For the most part the place is out of doors, for up in this northern wilderness when nature puts on a show it is an inspiring one. There seem to be magic days once in a while, with some rare quality of light that hold a body spellbound: In sub-zero weather there will be a burst of unbelievable color when the mountain turns a deep purple, a thing it refuses to do in summer. Then comes the hard part: how to plan a picture so as to give to others what has happened to you. To render in paint an experience, to suggest the sense of light and color, air and space, there is no such thing as sitting down outside and trying to make a “portrait” of it. It lasts for only a minute, for one thing, and it isn’t an inspiration that can be copied on the spot...

Lets get back on topic: currently warp system is set to energy proportional to speed(#2):
http://etastrum.phpbb3now.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=56
Alternatives:
1.Energy per warp proportional to distance ( >>79 )
*This would allow fair allocation for engines energy share, but costs alot for long-distance warps.
2.Energy per warp proportional to warpspeed with energy use proportional to upgrades(warp core)
*Current. Upgrades decrease energy use, speed determines energy 'burn-rate'.
3.Energy per warp is fixed but max warp distance and warpspeed depends on upgrades.
*Static. Upgrades determine speed and max distance(for one warp).Energy use fixed for all speeds.

If soldiers were to begin to think, not one of them would remain in the army.

What actually transpires beneath the veil of an event horizon? Decent people shouldn't think too much about that.

Well, you have to keep the engines running for the entire trip through hyperspace (I think it takes about a day per light year), so this is the only way that makes sense.

>>108
If you don't have to keep the engines running for an entire trip through regular space, why do you have to keep them running in hyperspace?

Back thrusters for the first half and front thrusters for the second half, that's for regular space at least, Hyperspace ... who knows, but I think it curves, so I guess you have to make sure you go the right way.

I don't think you usually travel under thrust the whole way. I mean, is that even advisable? Seems like it would complicate your transfer orbit.
