FUCKING LUNIX MODULES

Name: Anonymous 2009-04-29 17:48

I wrote a useless module, and it segfaulted, so I correct it and retry, right? Oh, I can't load it because I haven't unloaded the failed one, okay - what? I can't do rmmod because it's still "in use"? I need to reboot? fuck you, lunix, fuck you. Google has already failed me, you are my only hope, /prog/

tl;dr is there any way to remove a locked up module without rebooting. I fucking loathe rebooting.

Yeah forgot to mention the --force option does not work either

It gives an error "Device or resource busy" - OF COURSE IT'S BUSY WHY ELSE WOULD I PUT A FUCKING -f AS A PARAMETER

Cue Tanenbaum rant against monolithic kernels in 3... 2... 1...

Get VMware already. (Since you're posting on /prog/, this probably hasn't occurred to you already.)

vmware is unfree. unlike linux, which is antifree.

The rant isn't necessary. Everyone already knows how bad monolithic kernels are.

Yeeaah, I'd love to recompile a kernel on a fucking VM

Do you have to recompile the kernel to write LKMs? Anyways, as long as your processor supports hardware virtualization, you should be fine.

I don't suppose you've considered attempting to determine what is claiming the resources used by your driver, have you?
