What IDE do you use?

Name: Anonymous 2009-04-25 2:53

If you use one at all.

Name: Anonymous 2009-04-25 2:58

Eclipse.  Netbeans, emacs, vi, and visual studio suck balls.  The rest are not even comparable. If you disagree with me you are wrong.

Anyone not using Notepad++ where they get a choice is completely retarded.

Name: Anonymous 2009-04-25 3:32

Emacs, because I'm not an idiot and I don't need to do any penances.

< also a big fan of notepad++
Nothing beats having your IDE start as quick as notepad (i.e. instantaneously), and also not have to rely on a shitty VM which leaks memory after 3 minutes of use

What's wrong with windows?

Name: Anonymous 2009-04-25 4:08

Vi for quick hacks, Emacs for longer stuff

Name: Anonymous 2009-04-25 4:17

yi in vi mode for haskell, ex for everything else.
acme seems nice but i haven't bothered really learning to use it because ed is good enough on plan 9 and ex is better than good enough and works everywhere else.

The ones I use regularly are geany (works OK for Haskell RIP, but needs better completion and better build commands) and MonoDevelop/VisualStudio (for Coctothorpe, naturally).

I tried Leksah but it was ultimately annoying and often unintuitive, the semi-forced usage of Cabal sucked, and the module browser was kind of dysfunctional. I hope it improves, though. There were a few nice things.

There isn't much choice.  Of course I use GNU Emacs, the Text Editor.

The aim of Notepad++ is to reduce overall power consumption by using efficient binaries that require less CPU power, ideally resulting in a greener environment.
Wow. That is noble. NowI feel kind of bad about using EMACS :(

«Green» fascism is a method of the depopulation conspiracy that is forcing you to lower your living standards.  You won't save any trees or oceans by using 100 W/h less per week.
Use more electricity and support ITER, nuclear plants, orbital solar stations.

why? i've come to really like it. it's basically what it says on the tin, notepad but with some basic features that make programming much simpler. compile and run through any tool, selection tabbing, syntax highlighting for damn near every language, what else would any other IDE do?

Name: Anonymous 2009-04-25 22:09

Do yourself a favor and use vanilla vi(m) or emacs as your baseline instead of Notepad. No self-proclaimed IDE comes within miles of being in the same league, and Programmer's's Notepad is just a bad joke in comparison.

Ah, here we have a Unix text editor fag. Listen pal, this isn't the 1980's anymore, this is the 21'st Century. I'll let my good friend Ken Pier explain:

“I liken starting one’s computing career with Unix, say as an undergraduate,
to being born in East Africa. It is intolerably hot, your
body is covered with lice and flies, you are malnourished and you
suffer from numerous curable diseases. But, as far as young East
Africans can tell, this is simply the natural condition and they live
within it. By the time they find out differently, it is too late. They
already think that the writing of shell scripts is a natural act.” - Ken Pier, Xerox PARC

Name: Anonymous 2009-04-26 4:39

I use PIDA. It's the most lightweight IDE because it's not really an IDE at all. It combines different tools - things that work very well - and puts them together.
