why? i've come to really like it. it's basically what it says on the tin, notepad but with some basic features that make programming much simpler. compile and run through any tool, selection tabbing, syntax highlighting for damn near every language, what else would any other IDE do?

Do yourself a favor and use vanilla vi(m) or emacs as your baseline instead of Notepad. No self-proclaimed IDE comes within miles of being in the same league, and Programmer's's Notepad is just a bad joke in comparison.

Ah, here we have a Unix text editor fag. Listen pal, this isn't the 1980's anymore, this is the 21'st Century. I'll let my good friend Ken Pier explain:

“I liken starting one’s computing career with Unix, say as an undergraduate,
to being born in East Africa. It is intolerably hot, your
body is covered with lice and flies, you are malnourished and you
suffer from numerous curable diseases. But, as far as young East
Africans can tell, this is simply the natural condition and they live
within it. By the time they find out differently, it is too late. They
already think that the writing of shell scripts is a natural act.” - Ken Pier, Xerox PARC

ah, here we have one of those idiots who think that a brand new plastic toy hammer is better than a 10-year-old real hammer.

Think of it this way; using vi(m) or emacs is a lot like rain on you're wedding day

You know what editor LISP programmers use, right? Oh wait, IHBT

I use PIDA. It's the most lightweight IDE because it's not really an IDE at all. It combines different tools - things that work very well - and puts them together.

Ed, the greatest WYGIWYG editor of all.

ED IS THE TRUE PATH TO NIRVANA!  ED HAS BEEN THE CHOICE OF EDUCATED
AND IGNORANT ALIKE FOR CENTURIES!  ED WILL NOT CORRUPT YOUR PRECIOUS
BODILY FLUIDS!!  ED IS THE STANDARD TEXT EDITOR!  ED MAKES THE SUN
SHINE AND THE BIRDS SING AND THE GRASS GREEN!!

When I use an editor, I don't want eight extra KILOBYTES of worthless
help screens and cursor positioning code!  I just want an EDitor!!
Not a "viitor".  Not a "emacsitor".  Those aren't even WORDS!!!!
ED! ED! ED IS THE STANDARD!!!

bbcode left as an exercise to the reader
