I was only half-kidding when I wrote that. A lot of vocal armchair experts who idle on IRC all day would be a lot better off getting lost in actual production written code that is used in a major open source product by running it through a debugger, using the scientific method* to figure out how shit is actually getting done. Reading books is too passive and best kept to reflecting upon a few days of work you did elsewhere. Debuggers are a sorely underrated educational tool and I have no idea why some alpha nerds have this bizarre macho attitude that
