Lets create a programming language with no functionality and then call it a functional language. Sure a function can return a function but fuck if that returned function can't do more than add two numbers or cut the head off a list. Lets also make it parentheses dependent so some fuck can be lazy when designing a interpreter. The only good thing about Scheme is that my asian professor calls the CDR primitive 'cooter' which is completely contradictory to the language which is nothing more than a giant dong.
Scheme isn't about being useful. Shit, most professors will readily admit that. It's a useless language.
HOWEVER. It does teach some good concepts about the functional paradigm and compiler design which is essential for first years to know about.

Scheme is awesome because it puts first years who think they're hot shit because they can already do Visual Basic back where they belong.
Also, you're an idiot. Scheme can do a lot more than what you're taught in class, you're just not being taught the powerful stuff because that's not really, the goal; they're trying to make you learn how to structure your shit. That's all.
