Sorry for typing out a possible rage inducing thread.
Can /prog/ recommend a 3D game engine with its own scripting language that allows commercial use for games created? I'm sort of an ambitious modeler who wants to go into gaming, but other open source engines such as Ogre, Crystal Space and Irrlicht frightened me.
Really, I would love to code because I find the logic fun, but I have no interest in computers or technical aspects of coding. When I code, I would love to just jump right in, with every line of it meaningful to how the game is run. The idea of linking libraries, setting up environment variables, calling up namespaces or whatever the bloody hell it was, then waiting for the thing to compile to find out I couldn't run even a 'hello world' properly because the programming tutorial I followed was out of date is just off putting.
For me, gamemaker was good, but 3d support was a no go. Blender had these 'logic' bricks/blocks I found nice, but their own game project on the front page is made with Crystal Space instead of the Blender engine.
Well this was a long post.

Now you have a problem you just made up.

I'm guessing then it's better to suck it up and try them again? Just thought programming in a scripting language would be easier on a modeler who wants to see his models in realtime.
And my bad, it looked long in the text box. I rarely post.

I think all of the engines you listed provide a Python API (I guess this qualifies as a scripting language for this purpose). Also check out http://panda3d.org/

You will have to use something like ogre whether you like it or not. It's not that scary. Now go learn.

Isn't there a variant of BASIC you can use to make 3D games? BlitzBasic, Blitz3D, DarkBasic, something?

I'm not sure if the engines using basic would support some of the things I want to do graphic-wise, so I'll go look into panda3d and using python.
The easier it is to just drop your model into a 3d world and noodle around with it, the less powerful the 3d game engine actually is, and you'll quickly hit really shitty limitations on what you try to do.
NO EXCEPTIONS

Those are shitty beyond shitty and you need to be a l33t BASIC h4xx0r in order to get those pieces of shit to do anything. All that garbage just exposes a ton of low level unusable shit and expects you to control all the little details with something as pitiful as BASIC.
