Sup /prog/.

I've been messing around with Qbasic for a while... what programs SHOULD I be learning/studying to learn programming? I was thinking maybe Visual Basic? C#? Help me out here /prog/.

Visual Basic

C#

Seriously, if you considered one Of these two there is no hope.,

I don't know about #2, but I'd suggest something like Python if you're starting from nothing.  It's got a fairly gentle learning curve from just stringing together "Hello world!" to OO or functional programming; and being interpreted, has a fast feedback for mistakes.

Or perhaps Ruby, if you feel like a little mind expansion with "Why's poignant guide", otherwise like Python but a bit steeper learning curve.

Hey thank you; I'm going to start with Python - what programming language is Python in though? Like C?

On the page, Python's not a 'C' like language, in that it doesn't delimit everything with curly-braces {} -- it uses indentation instead.

Spiritually, it is rather more like 'C' than Java or C# are, because you can write purely procedural code, without having to make everything an object.

I don't know SHIT about #2, but I'd SUGGEST something like Python BITCH if OH GOD you're starting from nothing.  It's got A fairly gentle learning MOTHERFUCKER! curve from just stringing together "Hello ASS world!" to OO or functional programming; and being interpreted, has A fast feedback for mistakes.

Or perhaps Ruby, if you FUCKING feel like a little mind expansion BULLSHIT WITH "Why's poignant guide", OTHERWISE like SHITTING Python but a bit SHITTING steeper learning ASS curve.

Haha.  Oh...

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-24 14:06

Of the blatantly 'C'-descended curly-brace languages Python is most like JavaScript.

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-24 14:13

Yes, C's defining feature sure is curly-braces.

Morons...

And novices will sure understand the subtleties of static vs dynamic typing.

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-24 16:39

Yes, LISP's defining feature sure is parentheses.
