Best programing message board in the world? I think so.

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-25 12:53

it's certainly better than the giant wankfest you get at other places.

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-25 14:05

Only programming message board in the world that never has any actual discussions about programming.

Except you count "read SICP, Haskell! no U!" as actual discssions.

Don't be silly, when it comes to useless toy languages like BBCode we discuss for real!

GOOD THINGS ABOUT /PROG/:

- No ``I used something else than Java/C# for the first time in my life yesterday and therefore must write an excessively long, content-free post with a profound, insightful tone about my first steps in that language'' people à la reddit
- No namefaggotry-related problems such as blawgosphere-style® circlejerking
- No `Web 2.0' hipsters
- Some (unfortunately quite rare) good trolls
- Some (unfortunately quite rare) interesting discussion
- It is acceptable to call fucking retarded morons fucking retarded morons

please keep all those stupid fucking catchphrases off the SA Forums.

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-26 10:49

It's certainly the most entertaining programming forum I read.

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-26 19:23

I cannot program in anything but Scheme configured to run on my machine.
I am working on converting every single program ever written into said
language. I am about 80% complete, but right now I am working on the
Windows API. I assume everyone is at least at my level of competence.

/prog/ could be better if only it were moderated. We'd have less of these "hey here's a myspace go fuck it up kthxplzbye" shitheads (since they'd all be b&inated), and more of those rare worthwhile threads we sometimes get.

Also people need to learn to be polite.

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-27 9:27

>>22
Half the fun of /prog/ is not being polite.

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-27 9:29

Fuck you and your forced politeness.

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-27 9:45

actually, /prog/ is pretty useless
what do you go here for? to discuss programming? heh, yeah..
progamming boards are only good for helping lazy jackasses who don't want to do their homework by themselves
since you don't get that here (unless you acknowledge that you suck dicks, your mother is a whore, you're an assburger and that you regret choosing CS and wanna switch to something more useful) the only reason to visit prog is for "how do you pronounce x", expert programmers, enterprise solutions, my other car is a cdr, READ SICP etc.
also tunafish

you regret choosing CS and wanna switch to something more useful
That's exactly my situation. CS is fucking useless ``abstract bullshite''.

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-27 11:30

>>27
When you're programming in the real world, you'll appreciate your CS training. It really helps to know the fundamentals of what you're working on. Most importantly, it should be a boon for your analytical skills.

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-27 12:02

/prog/ needs a BAN HAMMER for shitfuckers who can't fucking code.  We're not your teacher, faggots.

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-27 15:31

I don't get the hate about CS. It certainly helped me when I was studying Electrical Engineering.

also tunafish
desperate attempt at granting tuna fish meme status.
fuck you motherfucker, gtfo

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-27 23:08

/prog/ is like /vip/, but for wannabe programmers.

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-28 3:02

>>22
No, you'd end up with one of the other programming boards -- abandoned and a waste of space.

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-28 3:09

>>33
I agree. Sure, we get a fair few idiots on here. But forums with moderation (as in, the moderators will remove posts they don't like) almost always end up as zones of forced politeness and an unwillingness to deviate from the status quo. Besides which, it just pisses people off having their posts deleted.

Note that assigning a score to a post as Slashdot does isn't really moderation, as it is completely advisory and can be ignored by the user.

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-28 4:40

>>34
This is why I've practically stopped going to "normal" forums because their mods are such utter fucking pricks. *chan anonboards FTW.

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-28 5:21

>>33
Some very limited rules (even just ``nypa'') would be alright, I think. Particularly if it just resulted in a ban of the user, not deletion of posts.
Once people start trying to enforce politeness, though, yeah.

Though really, even the personal army posts aren't a big problem on /prog/. Most of those niggers tend to go to /comp/ or /tech/.

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-28 5:36

What is "nypa"?

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-28 5:39

>>22
fuck you

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-28 5:40

>>37
It's ok I just figured it out.

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-28 6:36

>>36
I disagree. The only time bans should be handed out is when someone scriptfloods the forum with garbage, preventing everyone else from holding a discussion.

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-28 8:32

>>40
You mean 'preventing everyone from posting shit and trolling other shit', right?

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-28 10:25

Fatal error! Message could not be posted.

Please post threads less often!

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-28 11:06

That's a enthralling discussion by /prog/ standards

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-28 13:54

i agree actually, you don't have to bother maintaining a user profile and if you formulate your questions properly you do get expert programmer help, you just have to learn how to ignore the trolls

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-28 17:13

>>44
Ignore the trolls? They're often the best part of /prog/, and make me laugh.
