I am superior

Name: Anonymous 2007-10-29 10:30

I have tweaked mz kezboard so that pressing the useless scroll lock produces λ. How suave am I?

Scroll Lock Is Not Useless

I Use It Often In The Microsofts Excel

I use Microsoft Excel to produce pseudo-random numbers for top game shows. How suave am I?

Caps lock is a lot more useless than scroll lock.

CAPS LOCK is useful for writing SQL queries.

What sort of SQL shitware requires you to use ALL CAPS in your queries? Only baby rapists and filthy Arabs force their SQL to be upper case, when "select * from xyzzy where people = 'shit'" is much nicer to read.

It's not because of the software, it's the official policy of my employer (Industrial Best Practice if you wish).

Bullshit. SQL is much easier to read if the keywords are in upper case, and things like column names and variables are in lower, especially since in most contexts today, people writing SQL queries don't have the benefit of syntax highlighting.

Do you have SQL highlighting, where code and SQL is mixed together?

Name: Anonymous 2007-10-29 17:51

>>15
Yes. vi and emacs both do that.

vim-script or it isn't true.

A quick google (http://www.google.com/search?q=vim-script+sql+syntax+inline+highlighting) turns up a page which looks like it has a vim script which has an option to do just that, though I don't use vim (I'm a nano faggot) enough to bother testing to see if it works. I CAPSLOCK all my SQL keywords; I think it makes shit easier to read, syntax highlighting or not.

A bit like how English is easier to READ when you UPPERCASE all the verbs, am I right? Fucking idiot. GET a decent editor.

I don't use any lock buttons because I mainly use notebook, my physical Caps Lock is logical left Control, Scroll Lock is useless and Num Lock is non-existent on small keyboards.  Also to get λ I hold left Alt and press L because I configured my xkb layout to have a 3rd level with fancy Unicode letters symbols.  How suave I am?

I redefined the whole keyboard.

While I agree that SQL is stupid, I think uppercase keywords makes it easier to read. In "SELECT car, other_car FROM lisp", it's easy to tell which are keywords and which are field or table names.

>>11
Business languages need to be uppercase and verbose for some reason, so instead of "no u" we have NO TO (you) WITH CASCADED NEGATION OPTION IN TROLL MODE.

>>19
You made an interesting, albeit flawed, point. The problem is you are not supposed to read programming expressions like English; that's what business-tards would like it to be but it's not.

I predict that in a few decades time, we'll be able to get language parsing plugins for our brains to augment vision with automatic syntax highlighting. Reading books and magazines will be a whole new experience.
