"Computer science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes." -- E.D.
The degree to which your school's CS curriculum is about programming is positively correlated with the degree to which it fails.

Information systems is for enterprisey business retards who want to feel important and fraternize with other politicking managers at golf clubs.
Everybody else should learn IT (network nerd) or CS (programming nerd).

Well actually for game programming, programming skills are most important. Taking either of those courses won't implicitly teach you how to be a good programmer.
If you are looking to get hired, good skills and a good portfolio are probably worth more than a degree (unless you went to fullsail or somewhere).

Computer science has more to do with the fundamental information theories and computational problems that are related to electronic computers. If you like maths and theory, you'll like CS. If you like programming, do software engineering.
Information systems are systems that manage the input, processing and output of data and information for an organisation. This is more about business system design than anything else. The theory that you get in CS can help you in the low level designs of business systems.

If you want to become a decent programmer, study CS, and do not think for a second about not reading SICP. And game programming is a competitive business that requires solid programmers.
Information systems is about discovering business logic to develop and deploy multi-tier turnkey mission-critical scalable five-nines Web 2.0 AJAX-based XML object-oriented enterprise business solutions that create synergy between your business departments and allow your business to maximize your profits by lowering TCO through customer satisfaction.

The S in SICP stands for structure, and that is the thing that will make or break any large project.

CS is for REAL programmers, not people who make pong.
You guys are fucking stupid. He asked how to become a game programmer so you have to recommend the quickest path to failure. He must learn that he sucks.
