Good editor?

Name: Anonymous 2006-10-23 15:22

Hi! Just got a new hard drive and reinstalled everything. As I was  about to install TextPad again, I realized that it hadn't been updated since 2004, and that it wasn't freeware.

Does anonymous have a suggestion for a good text editor?
Wanted features:
* Syntax highlighting
* Very fast to start (as in not java)
* Free (Open Source would be nice)
* Macro support

Visual Studio Express :P
OR Notepad, you just have to be good at noticing syntax errors

Why the fuck would you want to use vi, emacs or any clones thereof?

Get a modern, usable editor and leave 60s unix technology where it belongs - in the past.

syn is pretty good and open source. Its only drawback is that it doesn't have word wrap, but if you're going to be using it for writing code that doesn't matter.

Try it and you might see why it's so popular. It's the second adjective you used in the second sentence :)
