Redirecting an image URL?

Name: Segata Sanshiro 2005-11-12 12:56

Let's play cards on the table from the outset: I know next to nothing about actual programming.

Is it possible to use a script of some sort that would make a picture you upload to a message board seem to come from another URL than it really did? I am asking you guys because I saw something that totally blew my mind and I wanted to know if I could duplicate it. Here:

The picture-answer in the first reply.... It's obvious it can't have come from the given source URL (when you right-click "properties" on it) and the "last modified" and "created" always point to today.

What is this :(  How do I do it?
I only assume it's some sort of script, which is why I am asking the pilgrims of /prog/. Thank you for your time!

http://www.rothware.com/anego/ane1.jpg?

That's the URL in the img tag, and it doesn't redirect anywhere. Seems like a perfectly good URL to me.

What I found strange was that it's on a Christian software site, and browsing the site's directories with the Getright browser, that directory did not exist.

Maybe, then, I made a false leap of logic in assuming it redirected or was a false URL?

What makes you think Getright's browser (or any browser for that matter) will show you all directories?

Most sites turn directory listing off.

Yes, the directory definitely exists.

Ah! It is still a mystery how that got hosted there, but thank you for telling me this much!

Yes.. I noticed a few times I couldn't find everything on a site through it.

How did you find out for sure, if I may ask?

search for derefer script

You simply need to change your referrer, there are many ways for you to do this, from just forcing your client(such as web broswer, download tool/manager, and so on) to use your user-inputted referrer or using a local proxy which alters it for you(if you need it for casual browsing), doing it via a user script may be possible too. Do some research, this isn't /prog/ material, just basic knowledge about how http works and how to change various headers in your requests.
