Open source would be communism if:
- You were forced to write open source for 12 hours a day with a gun pointing your back
- You could slack off all the time
- You weren't allowed to do anything you want
- You didn't own the code you write (i.e. copyleft all the time)
- The State made all sorts of propaganda about it
- You were dying of hunger because you can't affor- I mean you are not assigned enough food (essential for true communism)
Name:
Anonymous2005-05-30 11:06 (sage)
On top of that,
- Every program gets fixed resources regardless of what it needs, so when it fork()s, it children can only die().
- The State owns everything you program, write, or breathe
- The State is full of money leaks and the communist party leaders are the garbage collector
Uh, that word, "trolling", I don't think it means what you think it means.

free software is more like anarchy. communism generally implies some sort of controlling, regulating government, which does not exist in the open source world. in fact, thats the whole point.

Ugh anarchy (immature potheads, scum of the society). Ugh communism (no freedom, lazy asses, hunger).
Why can't we say "free software" is like "free software"?

I encourage those reading this thread to read Eric Raymond's writings on the subject of Open Source Software:
Dude look at him. How can you take someone like that seriously? If he doesn't have the brains not to look like he just came out of the jungle after ten years then I don't really want to know what he has to say.

That's great, you're on a PROGRAMMING board and you care more about how people look than how they think.
I think all this communist stuff is bullshit. Commies want to say "<insert something good> is like communism!" just to make that piece of crap sound good and feasible. Breaking news: it blows. If open sauce is like communism, then friendship is like communism, feeding cats is like communism, and hell, jerking off to hentai I downloaded freely from 4chan is like communism. WTF.

If it doesn't look like a human being then I'm not listening to what it has to say and those GNU hippies certainly don't.
you all fail for knowing nothing about communist theory, nothing about the blood shed by the aristocracy to get rid of it, nothing about europe's failed revolutions, nothing about how the ussr, china etc have nothign to do with communism, nothing about the spanish communes that were eradicated, nothing about the incredible propaganda by the usa to make 'communist' a curse word,... in short, you know nothing. but god forbid that anyone actually open a history/economy book and educate herself on these matters instead of spouting shit on the internet as if you were there when they wrote the theory and did the deeds

Lol, because you demonstrate such wisdom there. I bet you look like a fat, greasy, unshaven worker who lost his work in the industrial revolution and now want everybody else to pay for you so you can eat crap for free.

The OSI defines 10 points which define open source:
1. Free Redistribution
2. Source Code
3. Derived Works
4. Integrity of The Author's Source Code
5. No Discrimination Against Persons or Groups
6. No Discrimination Against Fields of Endeavor
7. Distribution of License
8. License Must Not Be Specific to a Product
9. License Must Not Restrict Other Software
10. License Must Be Technology-Neutral
CAPITALISM MEANS
+ lets our source fucking everything, until our country
has no fucking jobs and our people end up living of welfare
cus its cheaper to pay a third world country to do
every single fucking thing for you.
+ lets do research until we find a way to put our brain
into a robot and with the press of a button = ORGASM (with this i mean, lets shape human life into something not so very human just for the heck of the pleasure/confort)...
and + peanu butter jelly in ur pants
opensource means decentralized development, just like out sourcing, OS is Capitalism, the fact that they dont charge
is trying to make this world a better world as more than one country see it... and because europe is against copyright
for software. ok thx byeee
"The term 'financial gain' includes receipt, or expectation of receipt, of anything of value, including the receipt of other copyrighted works."
This is from U.S. Code Collection, Title 17 (copyrights), Chapter 1, Section 101: "Definitions."
[...]
And note how copyright law expressly includes "the expectation of receipt" of anything of value, and expressly mentions "receipt of other copyrighted works" as such a thing of value. And that's the very definition of "financial gain," as far as U.S. copyright law is concerned.
Now guess what the GPL is all about?

It's funny because the fucking programming board knows more about communism than any other board in 4chan.
Also, yes, it is communistic - and also, yes, that's why it's epic win.
GPL isn't communist, programming has nothing to do with the proletariat. Free Software, by extension, also isn't communist.
BSD could be said to be anarcho-capitalist, which really equates to capitalist without profit. To me, BSD seems to just mean "you wrote this so your code could get buttfucked by whatever ENTERPRISE SOLUTIONS PROVIDER hijacks it first". GPL, on the other hand, actually helps the community protect itself. GPL is true anarchist, in the style of all of the notable anarchist thinkers of both the early 20th century and contemporary figures, besides those fucking nutbag anarcho-primitavists.
Still, GPL is too weak. What the anarchist/free software movement really needs is a way to use the copyright system to steal copyright from other people that haven't licensed their code under the GPL, until all code is truly free.
communism = forced redistribution of goods
sharing your stuff has obsolutely nothing to do with communism and is not prohibited in any way in a free market system
does offering the IE for free make microsoft a communist enterprise? no!

anarcho-capitalism is by no means capitalism without profit, it is capitalism in its most unrestricted form, where laws are replaced with the desires of the powerful - in this case, the rich.
therefore, we can deduce that >>68 is made of fail
>>74
yeah, that should have been capitalism without profit by the producers, since there's no protection against, say, M$ jacking your code.
``Anarcho''-capitalism is the sickest production of the corporatist class. How can you have anarchy without mutual aid or community?
But anyways, blah blah blah, lets free some software.
