Let's just say, not all psychos work at FoxNews…
The more clever ones will gather (or muddy, as appropriate) the evidence to make the case take long enough to tie up someone they don't like.
And that's when they can't just simply use (and twist) the truth against their opponent and make "crimes" out of non-crimes. Then find the right moment to spring the news.
But that's off-topic.
Back on topic, my point is this:
As long as kiddy-fiddlers (real or otherwise) are persecuted and which-hunted as part of the Moral Panic Of The Day, the $EvilConspiracy will see it as a nifty tool in the toolbox.
Actually, though, it's the honest mistakes (someone seriously
thought you were kiddy-fiddling) that are more dangerous to the innocent; those will have the conviction that they're
right about you. That requires less acting skill than the deliberate character assassination, which also has the distinct disadvantage that it can be found out to be that.
