Nietzsche's religious beliefs are generally referred to as being "atheist". He certainly was a non-theist of some sort. His writings describe some religions in a more positive light than others, but that's not the same as believing in them.
During the early Christians, the both Pagan and Christians called each other "Atheists". And then, what is "God"? How can you reject something you can't define? Then if I define my God as the Sun, you can reject it only if you're blind or live in other start system.
