Soldiers

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-04 8:33

Why do people respect soldiers so much? WW2 was the last justifiable war. Soldiers don't defend our freedoms, our rights and liberties get stolen everyday (often in the name of national security).
Welfare recipients are more productive than soldiers.

I'm in the U.S. Army.  I'm not a fan of the wars.  Al Qeada is a international/subnational entity and its members should be treated as criminals and tracked by CIA/Special forces, not with invasions of nations.  This was unlikely to happen after 9/11 when Afghanistan had Bin Laden and wouldn't hand him over because of how outraged people were with the attacks.  The military is important and demands respect because even when they aren't in the middle of a war for freedoms, they are a deterent.  China, Russia, or whoever will not invade as long as there is a large and well equiped military around.  Soldiers are willing to do things that the rest of the public will not and deal with situations and stresses that the average person can hardly imagine.  I don't like to make a big deal about being in the military myself, but I know other soldiers that are heroes by most standards and who should be rewarded for what they do regardless of people's politicasl stances.

Soldiers risk their lives when fighting, so I give them respect for that.

However, that respect is diminishing since modern day technology reduces quite a bit the risks that a soldier faces.

Also, fighting an enemy that's stronger or on the same level as you requires much bravery and guts.

In other words, a WW2 veteran has bigger balls than a gulf war veteran.

In this day and age, people in the western world have gone soft, REALLY SOFT.

Dial back a couple centuries ago where war and conflict is a daily part of life for the common citizen.

However the people of today are tame and fearful of wars.

That's why when they see soldiers fighting wars, they think they're crazy/brave for fighting in the first place.

What about all the violent video games and movies?

all the fun and adrenaline without the real risks/insanity.

Exactly why Video Games are a good past-time. Virtual War. It's awesome no one actually dies but you can still immerse yourself into the atmosphere.

Only two kinds of people has respect for soldiers:
The government, and whores.
To everybody else they're just murderers and scum.
...except for US soldiers, who are scum to everyone - people just don't tell them this enough.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-05 15:03

i respect soldiers because they're ready to die for something

i think it's the government who doesn't respect soldiers, making them fight useless wars risking their lives for nothing

I'd say it's animalistic, we know that they are warriors and we are not.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-09 1:10

It's simple math really, even though they're serving sociopathic politicians and incompetent commanders they get very little out of it, they're at a deficit, the product of this deficit goes to evil motherfuckers but they're the ones risking their lives and getting paid fuck all.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-09 1:16

What do you mean by "reward"? Given special rights and privileges like knights? Or just paid more?

In the US, soldiers get decent pay (excellent pay if they move up the ranks a bit) and some of the best benefits around (free medical care, extra money for living off a military base, money for travelling, free or cheap food depending on where they are, and good retirement).  I think that this is how it should be.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-13 11:13

Al-Qaeda doesn't even exist. You're fighting against an idea, not an organization. And you're losing the ideological war.

They get medical care and access to education that's out of reach of huge swathes of the population, effectively compelling people to join the army if they want a chance at a not completely shit life. I'm not so certain this is how it should be.

Most people are stupid, you'll realize this someday unless you're one of them.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-14 14:11

>>25
Well that's debatable, but more importantly it's irrelevant. Most of the military are stupid too, I imagine. This doesn't say anything about their worth as people.

They are willing to risk their lives, which makes them a cut above other apes.

So are skydivers. I don't like what they're doing, so what the fuck does it matter how courageously they do it?

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-14 14:44

It doesn't matter what you think, according to the system it's economically productive so they are willing to pay them to do it.

lol at the thought of the US military being economically productive

This guy doesn't seem to appreciate the fact that soldiers are a deterrent and that without a professional military force always standing by to scare off potential invaders, North America would probably be the land of proxy wars for Russia, China, and the EU.  How he feels about the current wars is irrelevent.  Soldiers are brave for volunteering to be in the force that would go and fight a legitimate conflict if were to erupt.  Not agreeing with current wars has nothing to do with that fact.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-15 20:05

America invests vastly more in its military than required for any deterrent. You're a nuclear power, for Christ's sake. Nobody's going to launch an invasion.

Nobody except Mexico.  Two million reproductive warriors cross swim across the border every year, and George Soros ties the hands of the Border Patrol.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-15 20:49

Ultimately, soldiers are just people, even if there happens to be a higher percentage of jingoists and hillbillies regardless of what country you're from. Blame individual soldiers for atrocities they may commit and blame politicians for illegal or misguided wars, but don't categorically blame the soldiers. They do more than just fight - they distribute aid, protect civilians, and rebuild towns (whether or not they happened to destroy them in the first place)

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-15 20:52

It's conservative billionaires suppressing border enforcement, not liberal ones; they're the ones that are hiring illegal immigrants for lower wages and longer hours.

Yeah, but no sane people give a shit about that.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-15 21:44

George Soros doesn't want the two million instant Democrats signed up for El Guelfare and signed up to vote each year, then?  Open borders, unlimited immigration, and amnesty for all wetbacks aren't planks of the Democratic Party platform, then?

Illegal immigrants are a major threat to the US.  I'm not a racist and do not think that Hispanics are inferior to Americans.  But there are some serious problems with massive illegal immigration.  And I think the National Guard should be used to secure the border instead of fighting in the Middle East.  Here's why:

a) the poorest and most ignorant people that countries like Mexico don't want are the main ones illegaly crossing the border which isn't good

b) they take jobs at a time when there is a shortage of work for Americans

c) they bring drug and gang violence with them (America has drugs and gangs already, but large influxes of poor uneducated people increase these) they also bring large well funded and armed groups such as Mexican cartels and Salvadoran gangs

d) illegal immigrants can evade paying lots of taxes because they are undocumented but are still able to use emergency rooms and other services that cost tax money (I don't want to see anyone denied entry into emergency rooms if they need it, but I don't like the idea of illegals coming into the country and wanting to use them if they're not paying taxes)

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-16 2:30

>>43
But then Obama realizes that he can get the Hispanic vote by ignoring all of that and suddenly he's talking about how you're a Nazi.

Liberals love racism they way pedos love children! Which is also redundant.

Lieberal policies amount to demographic warfare and deliberate, planned genocide against the White race, but anyone who disagrees with them is a Nazi.  OLDTHINKERS UNBELLYFEEL INGSOC.

Actually they do pay taxes. Most of them use fake or assumed identities (with existing Social Security numbers) and taxes are taken out of their paychecks. Since they're illegal though, they won' ever collect benefits like Social Security or Medicare. As far as government revenue goes, illegal immigrants are really a win-win situation. Fiscal conservatives should support illegal immigration.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-16 18:51

>Actually they do pay taxes.

LOL!

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-16 23:17

I know many use fake social security numbers, are they really documented and tracked well enough that they are made to pay taxes?  Its good if they do, but I think points a b and c still stand.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-17 1:41

>>48
The whole point of having a fake SSN is that they don't have to be paid under the table. Taxes are automatically deducted from their checks. They sometimes even pay their assumed identity's child support.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-17 12:32

>>49
And, conversely, once the bills start coming, throw the old phony papers on the trash and get new ones, then stick the people whose SSN they stole with their child support payments, credit card bills, mortgage...

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-17 12:47

throw the old phony papers on the trash and get new ones
Easier said than done. Illegal immigrants like to live under the radar as much as possible. What you described would be a great way to draw attention to themselves.
