Democratic Socialism

I've recently begun reading quite a lot about different political and economic views, and have begun to realize that I identify most with Democratic Socialism.  I have one question about it, though.  Because democracy is applied to business, what keeps the larger majority of workers demanding more money than managers and up receive?  Would there be federal laws making minimum incomes for each level of the business hierarchy, or would workers just realize that that model would run the business into the ground?

>what keeps the larger majority of workers demanding more money than managers and up receive?

The fact that your jobs keep getting sent to China.
The fact they can fire you.
The fact there will always be someone willing to do your job for less money.
The fact that they actually need to turn a profit.

You've completely missed the point of my question.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm under the impression that Democratic Socialism and Social Democracy are quite similar, except the latter maintains the capitalist mode of production.

Mom and Pop Shop are barely geting by.
Mom and Pop shop refuse Unionized workers.
Mom and Pop shop gets sued due to no unions.

Mom and Pop's decades of hard work now gone.
Workers move on to other jobs.
Mom and Pop are in huge Debt because of selfish American Workers.

The big problem is the US does not have a manufacturing base like it used to have.

Mom and Pop Shop are barely getting by because huge corporations are saturating the marketplace with more stores, more perks and lower prices, thereby siphoning away their business.  It has nothing to do with unions, asshat.  Unions are just one more scapegoat for corporate america, just like high taxes and regulations.

In practice "Democratic Socialism" is just capitalist mixed economy, with a little more social "flavour" (like health care programs). It's fundamentally still capitalism, and the bosses still have you by the balls.

That sounds more like Social Democracy, not Democratic Socialism.

Oh yeah, I didn't realize there was a difference. Looked it up, sounds a lot like left anarchism/libertarian socialism. I more or less lean that way too. Seems the most sane and natural political philosophy to hold.

>supporting democracy
lol, how naive, stupid, and crazy do you have to be?
Democratic socialism is just about as bad as you can get the whole point of it is to DELIBERATELY LEAD THE GOVERNMENT AND ECONOMY TO COLLAPSE IN ORDER TO PROMOTE COMMUNIST REVOLUTION!

In "practice" it's a cancer of cultural marxist scourge who relentlessly seek to destroy the country they live in.

>not sure if troll or just stupid

I've been doing a lot of reading and I think I've come to have a good grasp on the economic system of a Democratic Socialism.

1. Industries that should not be run on a for profit basis (Healthcare) and Industries with huge amounts of capital involved (Possibly Steel or Energy) would be government run.

2.  The remaining industries (ie consumer goods) would not be run by the government.  Each individual "firm" would be run by a worker cooperative.  This essentially means that instead of top business execs and share holders making all of the decisions, all of the stake holders (anyone employed by the company) would make decisions democratically.  For larger companies, this may mean through a democratically elected board of officials, while for smaller companies, this may mean a simple majority vote.  Either way: 1 man, 1 vote.

3.  Instead of workers being paid a set wage and executives and share holders getting all of the profit, the worker cooperatives would distribute the profit throughout the firm as they see fit.  This provides motivation for workers because now, instead of a set wage regardless of how well the company does, they are directly affected by the growth of the firm they work for.

4.  In place of all business taxes, a single, capital tax will be issued.  A flat rate tax will be taken from each firm based on how much capital they have.  This tax money goes to the government, who invest it back in to the economy, passing whatever amount is left over down to the next lower level of government (and so on and so forth).

5.  Also (I forgot to mention) this is NOT a command economy.  Minimal aspects of the economy are centrally planned, and most of the economy operates on a market system, largely based on supply and demand.

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.

You seem to lack any analytic skills whatsoever.  The government doesn't even interfere with the most of the economy.
