reagan worst president ever?

Name: awesome kid 2009-11-26 16:03

he helped osama bin-laden create al-qaeda.
he supported fascist dictators all around the world (such as suharto in indonesia and the apartheid government in south africa).
his "trickle-down" economic policies are directly responsible for this current meltdown.
his "southern strategy" helped foster an atmosphere of racial tensions, although this has died down in recent years.
so i guess the question is, is it fair to consider ronald reagan to be the worst american president, at least in these past 100 years?

I doubt that Reagan of yours created the CIA but whatever man

Name: Anonymous 2009-11-26 19:15

no it is not, sir.  I think you are forgetting George Bush

Name: lreagan and thatcher ftw 2009-11-26 20:16

He helped Osama Bin Laden free Afghanistan from communists.

He maintained peace and stability in troubled countries around the world so they could develop their economies and could evolve into democracies.

His laissez faire economic policies ended the meltdown directly caused by interventionism, socialism, nationalisation and state planning the hippies voted in during the 70s. If only we had listened and privatised the government sponsored enterprises fannie may and freddy mac (FM stands for federal mortgagaes) and the federal reserve that were the direct cause of the credit crunch we would not be in a recession.
His "southern strategy" created a division between conservatives and true racists thus preventing a holocaust.

So i guess the question is, is it fair to consider ronald reagan to be the best american president, at least in these past 200 years?

Regan turned his back on bringing about smaller government. I doubt he truly would have anyway. The last real chance at having a candidate do such a thing was Barry Goldwater. I'd like to include Ron Paul as well, but I cannot as he didn't make it far enough in last year's election.

Worst presidents are

1. James Buchanan
2. Herbert Hoover
3. Jimmy Carter

Who else?

Hoover was a true American hero, doing the right thing instead of the most popular thing, his place should be taken by FDR for prolonging the great depression and spreading misinformation about the role of the state in starting it.

Reagan and Clinton

Bush was smalltime.  Most of his clusterfucks had immediate effects that Obama is trying to fix right now.  They're not easy fixes, mostly international relation stuff, but he's trying.  Besides, most of the stuff he gets blamed for wasn't really totally his fault, since he was pretty much a puppet president.  Reagan and Clinton did things that really screwed us economically.

Obama won't change anything.

Truth. He's just as bad as his predecessor. Enjoy your "change."

At least Bush didn't give three trillion dollars to greedy Wall Street bankers, greedy landlords who couldn't pay the mortgages on the slum hovels they rent out to the working-class, and General Motors and then with a straight face call it an "economic stimulus."

At least Bush didn't get on his knees and bow to foreign heads of state.

Obama makes me miss Dubya, whom I loathed and still loathe.  I didn't think that was even possible.

Reagan started to deindustrialise the US. Printing money has been the US's main strength, but we can only do that so far.

>>7
I disagree about Carter. He wanted the US to be a moral nation, and just happened to preside over a period of terrible inflation and debasing of the petrodollar (which was tough to deal with, and was only patched up in the end).

Bushes, Reagan, Clinton (to a certain extent), Ford, Nixon (despicable, but a few acheivements), Johnson, Eisenhower (was almost tolerable)... Not one of these presidents has anything on the better 19th century presidents (like Jefferson, Adams, etc - many good) or someone like Theodore Roosevelt (my favourite - before the US was fucked over by the banks but had a prosperous economy).

The US system is breaking. The judiciary is corrupt. The economy has no base and is being robbed blind by the banks. Its institutions, hospitals and schools are in an appaling state. Millions upon millions of immigrants are pouring across the border, totally unchecked, and we even give them free money. It's a fucking madhouse... I can only begin. The US's erosion has really been a steady process that has happened over the last century (and accelerated in the middle and especially since reagan - this is true).

Chester Arthur was our greatest president.  Just look at that facial hair

Lol, no.

At least Bush didn't give three trillion dollars to greedy Wall Street bankers

Not that amount, but he did bail them out.

greedy landlords who couldn't pay the mortgages on the slum hovels they rent out to the working-class

And yet, it still would have happened anyway. You think just because there's a different suit in office that things are handled any differently? Stop deluding yourself.

and General Motors and then with a straight face call it an "economic stimulus."

Bush lied through his teeth through plenty. He's no "lesser of the two evils", he was just as bad.

At least Bush didn't get on his knees and bow to foreign heads of state.

What? Who cares? And who cares what Obama does? They both suck.

Obama makes me miss Dubya, whom I loathed and still loathe.  I didn't think that was even possible.

You're a moron.

Well, good thing that we had Jimmy Carter instead. I don't think this country could take another Jimmi Carter. :)
