If this were the worst thing I'd heard about her I wouldn't care.  Aren't there far worse things in the background of this family?  Like, her pregnant jailbait whore daughter?  The manner in which she has raised her children tells me all I need to know about her intelligence, her judgement, and her ability to influence those around her.  They make my blood run cold.

I can't motivate myself to give two shits if she bent a rule to get rid of a dirty cop who drank on the job, it may be the one and only good thing she ever did in her entire public career.
