Pacifism

This is from a game called victoria revolutions, a global strategy game set between 1836 and 1936, it is not a perfect system of representing politics but it is still realistic and it means we don't have to hear a lecture about your faggoty fringe opinions no one cares about. I would choose the following.

Laissez Faire
Free Trade
Pluralism
Full Citizenship
Pro-military

It's either this or a lecture about your faggoty fringe opinions that no one cares about.

Name: Anonymous 2008-07-02 2:27

Not >>2 here.

Of what OP mentioned, I believe these offer the best mix of freedoms and quality of life.

Interventionism
Protectionism
Secularism
Full Citizenship
Pro-military

Limited Citizenship
+maybe Slavery
Jingoism
Everything else is adjusted for a dominating foreign policy.
If all opposition is destroyed we can afford free trade.
And if we enslave Asia we could afford a welfare system where no citizen has to work a singnle day in his life.

Wait, OP should have suffered a majestic setback too if these are proportional to real-life capabilities. Then really, idiots are exaggerating the difficulty.

Name: Anonymous 2008-07-02 14:03

So what policies would I choose to succeed if they were proportional to real life?

Laissez-faire and interventionism fail because then you can't build factories and you have to spend the game trying to reduce the taxes on the rich so they'll build more stuff and then you don't have money for the things you'll do and if you rape the poor with taxes that high revolt risk is going to come knocking when you go to war when you are fed up with being a shitty one province German minor.

But early on in the game all you need to do is get some pop with 80000 farmers producing 0.01 grain per day, promote them to capitalists and they will build shit loads of factories and railways for the rest of the game for $500-$1500 each and the computer calculates what the most profitable factories and railways are. Just because the $1000 is not in your pocket it doesn't mean it's not doing any good.

As I said, enjoy your eventual failure either due to your inability to get a powerful military or incessant revolting, and stay as the shitty poor shithole that can only "grow" so much economically - unless you are a fag playing a major power on very easy, of course.

What I hate about Vicky (and I say this as the biggest Paradox fan out there) is the fact that the fucking pops have funky logic and memory. If your working class is pissed to the point of going completely red and revolt or vote for the communists or socialists and they win they soon abandon their ideals. No matter if the state is doing great, if they're no longer starving (in fact it may be because they're no longer starving) that they quickly change their ideals back to whatever they were originally. They only way you can keep the left in power for more than four years is, ironically enough, keeping your pops miserable. The 'logic' with the pops just suck. If your government is doing well and there's prosperity then you'd vote for the same dudes right? And not the dudes that had gotten you into the biggest shitstorm of your life.

In b4 some wiseass compares it to modern times. We're talking about retarded AI logic here.

In any case Laisse faire for the beginning of the game then planned economy. Free trade. Atheism or secularization (I always get rid of priests to raise my working class' concsciouss). Full Citizenship for the immigration. And either Jingoism or Anti-military (depending on who I'm playing and if I'm going to expand).

Yeah, I hate that too. It is understandable that the want to preserve the current state and stop being revolutionary, however the game ignores the fact that the current state is revolutionary, so instead of wanting to preserve the current regime that is working well, they want a counterrevolution to go back to the system that starved and made them revolt in the first place.

Also, laissez-faire sucks with a minor/uncivilized FUCKING FAGGOTS WHY WON'T YOU BUILD USEFUL THINGS YOU HAVE SHITLOADS OF SURPLUS I HAVE NO TARIFFS SO YOU CAN BUY SILK FOR YOUR MISTRESS, JUST DO IT.

Anyways, this thread made me reinstall Victoria, and apparently a new version of VIP is out too, so... I'll be off.

You'd think that but you'd be wrong. I played as the united states of CENTRAL america, the first year into the game and a civil war starts and your population's militancy increases to 9, luckily the reactionary party had a laissez faire policy so I could sit as a presidential dictatorship for a while until they changed their minds and develop the economy at the same time. I also played as Modena which is a death sentence unless you can at least quintiple the size of your country within 30 years before Sardinia Piemont attempts to unify Italy (which I didn't know about).

Maybe you make the mistake of developing your economies and having a democracy. Socialist and communist revolutions occurred usually in undeveloped countries and the government became a proletarian dictatorship so even if they did develop afterwards they couldn't turn back into a democracy. There is also the fact that non-militant pops are socialist, so socialism is more of a moderate party.

Also laissez faire means that capitalists build what has the most potential profit, so I usually just leave it at that and buy what I need off the world market. Bigger capitalist pops make more money per day.

HOW DO I GET MACHINE TOOLS IF I CANT PRODUCE ANY AND I NEED THEM TO BUILD FACTORIES WHO CAN PRODUCE MACHINE TOOLS AND THERE ARENT ANY FOR SALE ON THE WORLD MARKET?????????????????????

Name: Anonymous 2008-07-06 4:11

Wait 10 years, I played as an uncivilised once and got machine tools during the 1950s.

Moar liek 1850

...and, the fact that you can't get a functional economy going with a shitty poor uncivilized without building factories yourself is a nice touch, Turkey tried that in the 20's and failed after all.

You just need to buy a ship and 2 armies then you can seize territory from uncivilised nations across the globe. The first thing you do as an uncivilised nation is disband all but 2 armies, set maintenance to 0, lower tax till your peasants and clergy and aristocrats can get all everyday goods, then raise tariffs. Tariffs are more efficient than tax so you get more money. Then you should be getting at least 1 gold coin a day, which you use to save up to buy a ship. Then you put maintenance back up, re-man your armies and conquer some random uncivilised nation on the other side of the globe. Rinse and repeat until you own all the shitty 1-4 province size unciviliseds then you build more armies and start on thailand, afghanistan and sokoto.
