He did not conquer by force.  He was voted into office because the Nazis promised government-provided benefits, and the people fell for it.

By using this logic, you would have to throw out every label given to anything political. You're going off an absolutist assumption that anyone deciding to call themselves something ie, liberal, conservative, socialist etc... has to act 100% accordingly. In the political world, this has never happened and never will. There are no "absolutes" in politics.
