The USA is a big market for industrial hemp. We currently subsidize farmers to grow shit we don't need like corn, while prohibiting them from growing something that we actually DO need and DO USE - we import it from other countries, and yet prohibit our farmers from growing it. Legalization would help alleviate our trade deficit somewhat.

Trade deficit isn't a bad thing, please indicate your sources showing why it hurts the economy. If you look at the GDP growth of the US, it has stagnated whenever trade was in balance.
Second, we subsidize so that they can still fucking stay in business, at least for the few small family farms, it just happens that big commercial growers can take part in it as well.
The farmer's dilemma: Grow more of your product so you have more to sell, and drive the price down due to supply, or don't grow as much product to keep price up. Problem is, you're not the only person growing that product, and they may decide to maximize crop yield, dropping the price anyway, leaving you with not enough product to sell to break even. So the best choice for a farmer is to create more and more crop yield, and get paid less and less for it.
If you want to cure the subsidy problem, create a price floor for grown goods. Then take away the subsidies.
Personally, I think most of humanities problems stem from the overproduction of food.

I think we should end all state regulation in the economy and let the invisible hand of the free market decide. No tariffs, no subsides, no minimum wage, no restrictions to outsourcing, no price controls and most of all no state run sectors of the economy except law enforcement and the military which should have to compete with citizen's militias and private contractors.
