The USA is a big market for industrial hemp.  We currently subsidize farmers to grow shit we don't need like corn, while prohibiting them from growing something that we actually DO need and DO USE - we import it from other countries, and yet prohibit our farmers from growing it.  Legalization would help alleviate our trade deficit somewhat.

Yeah because strip mining hundreds of square miles for sandy tar that then needs to be sent to huge factories to be made into anything resembling useful is far less destructive than growing plants.
