The keeping of weapons cannot be denied to the rest of the world without invoking Imperial practices, which themselves only enhance the chances of getting nuked. You live in a society where people around you are armed, and you seem perfectly fine with the chance that one of those guys can come up behind you and blow your head off. Get a sense of perspective; the USA can't rule the world, and in fact nobody can. Your gyrations on this matter are only making things worse, policy wise.
Once the USA learns to take it's place in the COMMUNITY OF NATIONS, at least this current flirtation with world war will stop. The only place where "first among equals" fits is in a small book by Orwell.
