Taiwan better surrender to the Chinese before my white American ass is dying over that small shit hole of an Island full of monarch/capitalist swine defectors from Chiang Kai-shek's rule.

Just give it over to China, problem solved.

This fucking Taiwan/USA protectorate deal is a rip off... Who is likely more to help the other? Yeah, USA helping Taiwan... when will Taiwan ever help fight off invaders from Midway/Guam? That's right -- NEVER.

I'm white. I agree with #2. The Chinese have a much more valid claim to the island, even if it is the seat of the legitimate (read: loyal, non-rebellious faction) government. No Americans need to die for Taiwan. It can be just like Hong Kong: it remains largely Westernized and still produces all the wonderful things we enjoy so much. But it becomes Chinese. Oh fucking well.

If Americans want to volunteer to defend Taiwan, that's fine by me. Unless we want a repeat of Yalu-Pusan-Yalu-Pusan, then we should just stay the fuck out. The US had no valid reason to get involved in Korea (my grandfather served as a combat engineer in the 8th Army from 51-52,) or Vietnam (my mother's uncle was killed at Quang Tri on December 27th 1967,) or Somalia or Lebanon or Kuwait or Panama or Haiti... I am fucking tired of my own family and friends being called up to fight in these god awful places. My mother's uncle had arrived in Vietnam just 8 days before he was killed. Of the friends I graduated with, three are in the Corps, one is in the Navy and another in the Army. One is in Baghdad at this very moment. FOR WHAT?

Screw Taiwan and screw China. We should fight no war unless we are directly threatened. If it can't be shown that we are directly faced with invasion or god knows what, why must we fight such wars? If a nation feels that they can tackle this Republic then let them try. But fuck the entire idea of Americans dying for the freedom of a people or nation that is not willing to die for its own freedom.

I'm not a "chink" and I think my position is legitimate -- why are we remaining loyal to them because they oppose Communism? It's not like we (The Untied States) is already owned by China. Isn't that ironic. If I remember correctly, the market got fucked during the spring just because China wanted to change the currency they put an emphasis on.

You're a product of your media. Chiang Kai-shek has appeared on the cover of Time Magazine more than any other person in the history of Time. What is so important about Taiwan for you? Are you in fact the Taiwanese chink who cares so desperately of a small worthless country that is best known for producing Happy Meal toys?

No, I'm not PRC Intelligence or affiliated with the PLA either. I'm American born and bred with no Asian ancestry at all.

Taiwan has for decades had access to sensitive US technology.

A weakening of the US commitment to assist Taiwan weakens the anti-China political forces in Taiwan, itself making unification more likely - along with the transfer of Taiwan's sensitive technology, not to mention the sheer economic value of the island, the economy of which is approximately that of Guangdong Province.

You cited the return of Hong Kong to China - while this was strongly favoured by British businessmen who feared the adverse reaction from Beijing that any delay on surrendering Hong Kong to China might have, the reality is that the transfer increased China's power at the West's expense. In the end, it can be honestly assessed as nothing more than that.

Way to bump a five year old thread.

If China will be a democratic nation, Taiwan will want integration with China peacefully, maybe a few decades later.
Taiwan issue isn't only on Taiwan, but on China's regime.

Don't change these.
