Ok, I want all you political investigators here at newpol to figure out something for me. Why is it that Nancy Pelosi has chosen to go to Syria now and hold meetings with their leaders?

The US has been mounting pressure on Syria to do more to prevent insurgency in Iraq and has illicited much internationally advertised protest from the government. Syria wishes to justify it's stance.

Last year took to extensive international diplomacy and advertising in order to achieve this, proving critics wrong in the US aswell as making the US's position look plain illogical. The US now believes Syria is assertive rather than aggressive, which can be contrasted with Iran's aggressive attitude.

Nancy Pelosi has been assigned the task of engaging in discussion to ensure the Syrians complete certain tasks regarding the prevention of insurgents from enterring Iraq and other terrorist groups from using their country and borders. Syria wishes to let the US and the world know that it is not a backwater state or part of the axis of evil and does not deserve to be manipulated through coercion.

Bush: Nancy Pelosi meeting with the enemy is shameful.  It sends all the wrong messages.
America: Isn't there also a Republican delegation that is meeting with the Syrian government this week?
Bush: Yes.  But let's not talk about that.
America:  Well, um... Do you find that to be a bad idea as well?
Bush: No, of course not.
America:  How do you hold two completely contradictory ideas in your head while simultaneously believing both?
Bush: My brain is formed by the confluence of Lovecraftian dimensions of insanity.

Oh, and in addition, Prime Minister Olmert of Israel wants her to convey to Syria the message that Israel does not intend to bomb them any time soon.

Thats an interesting theory, my theory is that at this time when the legislators are trying to pass the timetable/funding bill for the war in Iraq, Pelosi's internal political strategy staff has decided it best that she look proactive and in control and thus meet with a leader in the region on a token visit that isn't really designed to get anything done. I mean, Syria? If she really had balls, she'd go meet with Iran and try to stop this maddening progression toward war.

Why do they always do that? Its like they want to show their submission to the culture they're visiting by adopting some facet of it.

Read moar Machiavelli. Machiavelli said loyalty is a measure of the gap between the fear and love someone has for you. Fear is important, but so is love. She is trying to get them to like her.

It's against the law in Syria for a woman to not wear the rag.

Also, not wearing it would be like the Mexican president visiting the US wearing poncho and sombrero.

Is this customary formal dress in the USA?
Casual viewing of network news suggests it is not, although perhaps the expensive suits are merely CGI.

And wearing a rag on your head is in Syria?
Obviously, YES. For women, it's MANDATORY.
You may think it stupid, but that's the way things work there.
For the record I know nothing about Nancy Pelosi, and was just trying to clear up misunderstandings.

NOT wearing it? LOL IZ AN AMELICAN I CAN WAER WHATEVER I WANT
Are you being sarcastic or serious? I really can't tell.

You are not a congressperson.
But if you were, you'd be free to introduce a bill.

There's already a bill that says that foreign dignitaries, while staying in the US, must all pee sitting down or face a $20,000 fine.

She is Queen and will do whatever she wants. At least until Hilary yanks a knot in her ass.

Don't change these.
